What led me to this topic was being reminded of the existence of the Peterborough Petes. There is no creativity in the name, there is no threat in the name and it is impossible to express the name in a logo.
Dishonorable mention to the Fayetteville FireAntz of the SPHL. Fire Ants would be an OK name, but the way they do it is a nightmare both when it comes to grammar and spelling.
I'm not picking on them, I love their team, but I have always thought that the Blue Jackets could've gone with something else. Hard to make a logo, hard to have a mascot, makes it almost impossible to go to a different color scheme if they ever wanted to...I don't know. I'm sure a lot with disagree with me, but it was the first team that came to mind when I read this.
Back from around 1995-2005, the lower level leagues all had a bunch of teams with "ice" in their names. Lake Charles Ice Pirates, Corpus Christi IceRays, Knoxville Ice Bears, Austin Ice Bats, Adirondack Ice Hawks, and so on.
The only one that didn't sound forced was the Chesapeake Icebreakers.
