I think scouts are worried about the one year wonder aspect of Zykov.

Certainly worth the gamble at 25 though.

And unless we change the philosophy this year, we won,t get bigger unless you trade for it or go UFA.

Now....you also needs to assess if Petan IS Naslund. Naslund, in his era, had proven he was able to play with men already. Had great seasons in the SEL prior to be drafted. Petan doesn't have that yet.

Before I married my wife I told her that unless there was a serious medical emergency that Draft Day was my day and that there was nothing to take me from it and she needed to get that I couldn't care less if a family member of hers was getting married , giving birth, if there was some event ..etc, I would be in front of that TV. She told me she understood and was good with it, and she has been okay to this day, though she is more annoyed.

Okay. So if you can guarantee me that Petan IS Naslund, yes I pick him. But in the real world.....who can guarantee me this?

While looking over the Habs lineup, including prospects I believe will join them within 3-4 yrs. The biggest holes in their team will be a defensive center that can win faceoffs on a consistent basis, lets say about 61% and be their top PK.

The next position that needs to be addressed is a huge defensive defenceman, a player that can skate well, make a good first pass and most importantly keep the area in front of the net clear. Did I mention he also needs to be able to play on average 22-23 mins. per game.

The center position may be taken already, Joonas Naatinen (Hamilton Bulldogs) missed last season due to injuries, before that he was showing great strides playing the NA game. At the last WHC's he centered Finland's first line, facing the top lines from every team they faced and played extremely good hockey. Even so it couldn't hurt to draft another center that can play that type of game whilst scoring a few goals as well.

At defence, drafting a really top notch defensive defenceman is not only necessary but imperative, these are the players that own the area in front of Carey Price. The abuse these players receive doing their job, quite often lead to injuries, so in fact the Habs should be looking for a couple of them. This year's got a few really good ones, Santini, (he's a little small) Diaby*, Wheaton*, Morin*, Zadorov, McCoshen, Heatherington*, Bowey*,Graves, Soucy*, McNulty*, Hauf, Sherman, Ben Harpur and a few more.

There should be an aggressive effort here by the Habs to draft at least two of the better prospects this year to insure the Habs have the depth necessary to go deep into the playoffs (Think Stanley Cup Finals) in the coming years (3-4 yrs.) Having depth in the system, doesn't mean having 23 players in Hamilton. It means having 23 players in Hamilton that could be regulars in the NHL for quite a few teams. (Calder Cup Winners, AHL Crown)

When the Habs reach the playoffs and start winning series and the farm team is contending for the Calder Cup every year then the Habs could be a Dynasty once again.

I have 44 players ranked ahead of Petan and probably another 10 I'd consider before him as well.

Lucky for us, there are only 8 picks between 25 & 34 and I'm seeing a lot more than 8 names that folks expect to be picked in that space. So some of the favorites are bound to still be on the board for our 2nd (and 3rd) pick.

What if we pass on them!!

I would've lost it if we passed on Collberg last year.

So you wouldn't take him at 36 if he's available?

Nope. #55 only and he'll be gone before then. I'm content with that.

I liked what I saw from him at the Memorial Cup, not sure about passing up on him at 36 but I guess well soon find out. There are plenty of solid prospects in the top 60 like you said it's a question of preference. Sunday is going to be fun

Santini sounds like a guy who's the type of shutdown dman we need.

How's his mobility ? Since he's a righty (if I saw correctly) then a Tinordi-Santini pairing can be pretty enticing in the future, no ?

Now that we're getting Lecavalier, we don't need to draft a big forward anymore

Somehow though, I guess it's pretty sure that at least on RDS, they will have extensive stuff on our picks. And if they are intelligent enough...stick around at least for our 1st pick of the 3rd...but won't hold my breath for that. We should have the first 2 rounds. If Leroux can sell his thing, he'll ask RDS to stay there since it will ALSO be a Big Q year.
After the first round, it's always a mess to follow on TV...and it must also be a mess to broadcast. Picks are made every 30 seconds or so, it's going too fast. I'm gonna watch the first round on TSN and then, I'll watch RDS because I suspect Leroux will announce the Habs picks the second after they are made...

The solution is simple, they should just split-screen it with the big draft board shown.

I had a nightmare that we went off the board with all of our picks la David Fischer, I was very depressed to say the least.

Or just give us the sound of the draft...with the visual. That would be amazing!
