If they're not spending to the cap the smartest thing they can do is retain as much of the salary of Vanek and Miller as they can as it will only increase their trade value.

In 2014 they may use it on Leino if he doesnt persorm next year. Buffalo on the other hand is a team that would do a trade for a buyout candidate or a salary dump (Ballard from VAN, Heatley from MIN)

Boston--likely Peverley or Boychuk
Montreal--Gionta
Rangers--Richards (may wait till 2014)
Pittsburgh--MAF
Vancouver---Booth, Ballard, Luongo
Philadelphia--Brierre, Bryz
Boychuck has 6 goals this post season more than most of our forwards. 0 Chance he gets bought out. Pevs or less likely Kelly.

Their roster is already thin enough. Doesn't really help to buy out one guy just to replace him with another UFA on an inflated salary. Besides, Leino looked half-decent this year when he was healthy. While he's obviously not worth the contract, he's not a black hole either because his defensive game is much better than people assume. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he goes on to have a strong year. Leino is like a box of chocolates. Always has been, always will be.

Maybe Buffalo should sign Briere and get the next best thing to Scott Hartnell and reunite the legion of loom.

If it's possible, I think Buffalo buys out Leino in a blink of an eye. Leino's cap hit is 4.5M through '17-18. Cap going down and BUF has an inconsistent injury prone player with that cap hit...

I don't see how they couldn't get a similar player from UFA for fraction of the cost to keep him.

A consistent Leino is a pipe dream, the only time it happened was in playoffs for PHI. He isn't worth more than $1.5-2M and really never was.

Just means they'd be keeping those players on the roster.

I really hope Glass gets bought out or plays in WB/S, waste of 1.1 million in cap space.

Bruins won't buyout Peverley or Kelly as teams would certainly offer decent assets for either and the Bruins definitely will NOT be buying out Boychuck.

You could add Florida to that list.

Might not be able to afford, aka don't want to, a buyout of Upshall.

Could see another team buy him out and Florida gives up a mid level prospect in return.

Boychuk has been one of the Bruins best players and is a very good #3 D, I agree, there is absolutely no chance he gets bought out, heck, I don't even think they would trade him.

But that's a lot of speculation.

Kings have no other buy out targets, really. Long term contracts on Doughty, Richards, Carter, and Quick, and they're all not going anywhere, obviously.
He couldn't be bought out he's inured and buyouts must occur basically before draft day. You can't just wait until the start of the year and buy him out if what you mentioned happened.

I could have sworn I read somewhere on this thread that Heatley was going to be ready for next years training camps and so he was able to be bought out.
The standard for buy-outs is whether the player is medically cleared to play hockey at the time of the buy-out. Not whether they think he'll be cleared before training camp.

I have no clue what the Islanders do with Dipietro. I am about 99% sure they won't use amnesty on him but they might buy him out the normal way, but I also think they might just keep him for another year in hope they can dump him to another team for a bad contract(or even better force him into retirement)
