Winnipeg wants to move up the draft

Kevin Cheveldayoff the GM of the Winnipeg Jets did his press conference before the draft and he said teams have inquired about the Jets moving down the draft but he says they want to move up the draft. Can they get that done and how/what would be the Jets trading.

Here is the press conference.

He seemed to indicate that teams want a roster player to move up. I would do Burmi + 13th overall for 4-5th overall, but nothing less.

If they want to move up just one or two spots - won't make much of a difference. Probably have to be at 8 or lower to make it count. Who could they give up. Kane, Bogo untouchable. Burmi probably not enough. Maybe Buff and their pick to get inside top 8.

Came here to post something like this .. My initial thinking would be Burmi + 13th overall to Edmonton for 7th overall ... Oilers get their future second line centre (and the Yak - Burmi line could be sweet) and trade back to take a D like Risto, Nurse, Pulock etc ... Jets move up to get a guy like Monahan, Lindholm, etc

I don't think so either, but adding a pick would be perfect.

That would make a lot of sense, especially if it ensures they can get Barkov, maybe Monahan if they can't get up that high. I was actually coming here to post Burmistrov + 13th for their desired move up.

Does something like Tedenby+9th overall for Burmistrov+13th make any sense for either team?

Oh god! If we could do something like Burmi - 13th - One of our 2013 2nd round picks to get to 4-5, that would be awesome. Of course I say that hoping that Barkov would somehow be available.

Cant really expect a GM to pass up on Barkov for 13th + Burmistrov..

I do think we'd have to add, but not much. Maybe our 3rd rounder.

No offense intended and apologies if any is taken, but in no universe would a lottery team value Burmi highly enough to take him plus the 13th for one of the top 5 or 6 picks this year. A small top-up does not get it done either, unless by small top-up you mean Buff.

Canes would have no interest in that package, even with the 3rd rounder included. If we move down, especially 8 spots, a top 4 d-man better be coming back our way or else they'll happily stay put. Nashville would probably want even more to pass up the chance of drafting Barkov or Drouin.

That could be possible... I would definitely see Calgary at 6 trading down for that kind of package... but would Winipeg still be interested?

Burmistrov would be an attractive option for Carolina or Nashville.

Burmistrov has next to no value at this point for Carolina.

For comparisons sake, Riley Nash (Carolina's third line center) scored 1 less point than Burmistrov, while playing in 12 less games and playing an average 2 minutes less ice time per night.

They had identical Corsi and Offensive Zone start percentage, while Burmistrov faced slightly better competition.

So would Barkov, Lindholm, Monahan, and Nichuskin. And we'd control them longer and for cheaper (at least the first 3 years).

The only trade where two teams have needs, value and the right pieces that fit available to move is Edmonton I think. Calgary needs as high end of a player as they can get IMO where as Edmonton is looking for the right surrounding pieces.

Burmistrov + 13th for 7th

Winnipeg gets the guy they want at 7

Edmonton gets Burmistrov whose offensive ceiling is lower, but has an established two way game and tons of skill. For the downgrade at C they get a defenseman to add as well.

It's tough to swallow for me. Not sure that I would but its the only thing that seems to make sense for a team trading with the Jets to me.

Easy pass from EDM.. unless they are trading away Gagner in another deal first.

Burmi would, get more if he were in a package, say with Buff.

I would't dismiss the trade so fast in fact I would likely do it, as far as im concerned Burmi is a 3rd line center but a good one who could move up to a 2C one day but wouldn't count on it. I think Burmi would be a perfect long term solution for a defensive 3rd line C. Could likely draft Lazar or Horvat @ 13. Then down the road when one of Burmi, Lazar or Horvat is ready for 2C spot you move Gagner.

I agree 100%

Sorry Jets fans, your not getting into the top 4 with that package. Any one of the top 4 prospects would be 1st OA picks in other years. So this means you need to value a top 4 pick as the top pick.
