what happens next...

Now that streit is signed, does that make any of our current Dmen more expedable?

meszaros and grossmann dont have much value because of health reasons but coburn still has some value IMO. I was hesitant to trade him but with streit in the mix I am ok with him being dealt.

Also, I am not hell bent on having to keep couturier as I see Laughton being able to fill his 3rd line center role sooner rather than later.

So basically, what dman could the flyers realistically get with couturier, coburn, & #11?

Obviously, I would prefer pietrangelo above all others but there is no way the blues will let him go.

Shattenkirk? Yandle? Edler? Is that too much for any of these Dmen?

I am sure some team out there will take a chance on Mez. Coburn is a player I want to keep even though he had a bad season. Him with Streit will be a good pairing and Grossmann with Gus will be a good pairing. Then again playing in this system it seems like you have to have 10000 good d-men on the team because they will all get injured.

thanks for the replies, I want a #1 dman on the flyers but obviously over paying for one of the guys currently available is counter productive.

Is there any chance pietrangelo is traded? I see him as a #1...

I think the obvious thing is Bryz and Briere buyouts, followed by a trade of at least one of the Dmen, but IMO probably two. Which two they are I am not sure (Mez and Coburn is what I think). After that I think Couturier will be moved for a defender, likely Yandle. I must stress that this is not what I WANT to happen necessarily, only what I THINK will happen.

Trading Couturier for Yandle after signing Streit would be insane.

On one hand, it would be hilarious (and make us have more cap wrapped up in our D-corps than any other team probably.)

On the other hand, my head would explode. The best thing about the Streit signing is not losing any of the young core.

As it stands, with the expected buy outs of Briere and Bryzgalov, the Flyers defense will be getting paid around $33 million. Timonen is at 6, Streit is 5.25, Coburn is 4.5, Meszaros is 4.25, Grossmann and Schenn are 3.5 million each and that doesn't include Pronger's money or Gustafsson or Bourdon, etc.....Someone from the defense is getting moved. Who knows, they might move two or three defenders.

All what I can tell you is that I'm kind of anxious as to what Holmgren's going to do next. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason with regards to his moves. He keeps saying he's trying to build a Stanley Cup club, but his moves leaves a lot to be desired sometimes.......

Yea you have to hope and think that the homer signed that contract off to not have to trade couts or schenn. If he does it anyway I'm calling for a firing.

I think we buyout bryz briere. Trade Read to LA for bernier. Trade mez away for a late pick. Possibly sign another fwd if it comes cheap otherwise go with what we got.

I think Homer feels pretty comfortable now that he has already fixed the biggest need (PMD) and the real off-season has not even started yet...

He apparently thinks that he is dealing from a position of strength now and can just wait and see what comes his way: players getting bought out somewhere else and free agents moving on from their current teams like Iginla, Morrow....

In the worst case he just dumps some salary in Briere (obvious) and Mesz (?) to get cap compliant and they start the season with an intact forward squad.

Our offense would look terrible if we didn't sign anyone after letting read go. I would rather just keep read and not get bernier

Read what I wrote. The trading of Couturier for Yandle would come after Mez and Coburn were traded. The defense would look something along the lines of...

Timonen-Yandle
Streit-Schenn
Grossman-Gus

And again, this isn't something I am necessarily rooting for, just something that I think may happen.

I think keeping Coburn and playing him with Streit is far more likely.

Just out of curiosity is it against the CBA for lets say Vancouver, Philadelphia, or anyone that is likely to use a buyout, to then resign the same said player to a smaller contract? I would assume that it must be.

Have to wait a year to resign a player after you but them out

Trade Mez for whatever we can get for him. Trade Read for Bernier. Laughton plays in the NHL next year.

This board will be out of control come July 1.

I just hope Homer doesn't send Couts or Scheen for Beriner, if Lombardi wants either just text him Offer Sheet.

In the pit of my stomach, I fear the worst, hope for the best regardless this server will crash from the Flyers Board July 1st.
