It is a lot of money, but it is definitely a step back in competition, no matter what Medvedev says. Not that I actually believe the offer, such proposals are often overstated. And using the Olympic team threat? Sleazy. It would definitely be a tough blow to overcome, were he to leave, but it hasn't happened yet.

If true I can only feel terrible for the CBJ orginazation. Finally turn a page and look like you're beginning a new era and potentially lose your vezina goalie.

What happens with the agreement between the NHL and the KHL if he were to accept? Technically he isn't under contract with Columbus, but would they just lose him for absolutely nothing?

They haven't made any progress. I'm assuming he wants them to match.
They can't match, and they can't come close to matching that kind of money. He knows that and his agent knows that, so why would they bother?

While his preference is absolutely to stay in the NHL, I don't believe for a second he'd leave that kind of money on the table.

Good thing for Columbus that $10m almost certainly isn't on the table from SKA.

What happens if he wins the NHL 14 cover, and goes to the KHL?

Lol.

Bob never seemed to be the type of person to possibly bolt.

He did go on record that it was hard for him his first year, especially because his girlfriend (maybe then fiancé [now married IIRC]) was still in Russia and he missed her a lot, though.

I'd take the money and run, bob won't be able to repeat his performance this year. Might aswell make sure you get paid for the best hockey of your life.

Can't blame him for taking that, especially when it basically sounds like they're saying that if he does they will give him the starting opportunity for Russia in a home olympics... C'mon, that is just huge. And he'll be able to come back to the NHL once he's made his money and competed in the olympics...

Got to feel for CLB though, sadly this is just another reason why Russian players a little bit more sketchy to pick, wish it wasn't so.

Hudler took the money, 5 million a year. Wouldn't be surprised if Bob took it, in fact, he'd be stupid not too.

Really sucks for Columbus.

If Bobrovsky's gone Back to the cellar for Columbus so much for them being a difficult team to play against without him there back to winning 30 games a year

I wouldn't blame Bobrovsky if he takes it

So far the Jackets haven't shown they truly want to bring him back

Damn...is that in US dollars?

I wouldn't blame him for taking that kind of money but I do hope he stays with Columbus. They have great fans and they haven't had much to be excited about lately. They finally land a vezina calibre goalie and it would really suck for them to lose him so quickly.

Also, I can't help but think this is Colorado's fault. If you guys had beat Minnesota and had Columbus in the playoffs, Bobrovsky could have stolen a series or two. That taste of the playoffs could have been better than any dollar amount to him.

At the same time, if the KHL offered a North American player that kind of money, they might just take it too.

Example, someone like Shattenkirk gets that kinda offer...hard to turn down.

Pretty much. As he is not signed, there is nothing Columbus can do, nor is there any compensation. If Bob turns this down, I will have infinite respect for him. Might call him crazy too.

They better hope so, because 10 million rubles is only ~300k USD

Probably because they might be a little hesitant banking on a goalie who was only truly elite for two months (25 games).

They would still hold his NHL rights. He'd be a RFA if he came back before age 27.

Could very well be their only real backup plan with Smith close to resigning.

Either that, or go for Timmy T!
