Looks like MB is going to snag the goalie coach out of Chicago. That could be good!

So they lose in the final at home AND their 1st round pick in a nice draft? Yeah, I'm happy

lol at Gauthier on the ice, what a pathetic loser. Why did the Hawks even hire him for?

Bolland, Bickell and Waite in MTL, Mark my words!

Gongrats to Hawks! Lol and how bad they suck before new glorious era and two cups. They were absolutely atrocius so many years.

Sigh...when is our turn to hoist a cup?

I don't think there will be cap space without moving a top 6 player.

You're automatically substituting size for skill. No guarantees there.

I think MB adds one tough D and a bigger top 9 forward. I also believe he'll move up in the first round if an equitable deal can be had.

Gauthier was Habs GM for about a year.
You can not blame him for the problems of the last 10 years...

I am convinced that he decided to tank when he fired Martin and replaced him with RC.
Obviously, Martin was making this team perform better than it's real value.

Two of our second round picks are his to brag about.
Maybe he was convinced that we needed to tank and he thought he could stay there for another two years.

You can blame him as a control freak and for not spending to put in place the setup that MB did.
But you do not know the budget that was allocated to him.
That was the first year of Molson as an owner and it is perfectly possible that there was less money available.

We may know the real story in 10 years or more.

His good ear . Classic. I think you and I were the only ones defending Gauthier last season. Nice bit of vindication, even though it means absolutely nothing.

Goat wasn't good, or great but he wasn't awful. And I'm happy for him to win a cup, after all that awful crap written about him by the rags in Montreal and on here. Who gives a damn if he's a vegan?! Buncha losers.

How much for Bickell?
3M? 4M?

This guy is reaching the top of his value.
There will be teams going after him with big money.

Habs would be better off looking for the next Bickell in AHL than paying big $ for him.

To get more than 37 points, Bickell will need to be a top-6.

Is he better than Malone at the same age?

As for Bolland, he is still under contact for another year.

Before the UFA market appear, Bickell will be valued at nearly 5M.
Most likely Habs will put over 3M on the table but some teams will offer much more.

Don't know why this is turning into a Habs bash fest on our own board. Chillax, our future has just begun and for everyone going on about the multiple all-star Hawks, look what happens when we get the 3rd pick! Hawks are a superbly managed organization, but lets not pretend they weren't worse than the Habs for many many mannnny years and actually took them awhile to even start drafting wisely with top picks. I trust MB - he was trained by what appears to be the best organization, or at least one of them.

Anyway, way to go Chicago! Screw you boston! I'm just happy. What a way to win/lose the Cup.

Don't you know, every thread on this board turns into a "Habs bash fest" eventually!

Congratulations to the Blackhawks! Especially happy to see Stålberg win the Cup as he's from a place not far away from where I live.

Hopefully he brings it home and you get to see it

I remember when Vincent Lecavalier brought the cup to Ile-Bizard, there was a four hour wait. I didn't touch the cup when I took the picture.

(side note: I've got a massive bro-on for Vinny possibly signing in Montreal this summer, I know it won't happen but dang it would be sweet)

Would be awesome if that happened, but I'm not going to get my hopes up though as he isn't particularly well-known even in his home town.

I went from pissed when Lucy scored to such joy when the Hawks tied it then won it. I don't think I ever cheered for a team more that wasn't the Habs. Chicago deserved it but I thought Crawford or Bickell would have won the Conn Smythe.

The real story is Gauthier is useless. He was GM for more than 2 years, and did none of the things you give credit for. He gave away draft picks and prospects and ran the team like a circus.

I'm no fan but... the guy also acquired picks/prospects by trading Cammy, AK and Gill...

Really? Vindication for Gauthier supporters?

He just got there.. he didn't DO anything. Did the Hawks even make a signing or trade since he's been hired?

Yes, which puts him at best a push on the picks front. Every few weeks someone comes in with a Gauthier vindication post (or thread) which tries to convince people he was an builder type GM. He also sent picks away in acquiring Moore, Wiz, Tinordi and got fairly hosed whenever he tried to deal a young player.

Anyhoo, that's old news but I cringe when someone tries to sell Gauthier long on great qualities that don't exist.

LOL @ this garbage. He was GM for 2 1/2 years btw and in that short time ran this franchise into the ground. Not all his fault, but he did a lot of things that he should be blamed for.

Dont act as if you're any better, trying to "downplay" whatever good moves he did. As weird as the guy could be, trading guys like Gill, AK and Cammy were good moves.
