I thought it might be good to have a little discussion about what we are thinking will happen with our 6th D spot. I would love for Roszival to stay for another year or two. He's been great in helping with Leddy's development, and he's solid on the back-end. With his age, I think we may be able to have him for ~ 2m.
27. A lot of the focus on the Bolland/Frolik moves was on re-signing Bryan Bickell. The Blackhawks aim to re-sign restricted free agents Marcus Kruger and Nick Leddy, but there was talk at the draft they wanted to try and keep Michal Rozsival, too. An unrestricted free agent, he played very well for them.
I really hope they bring Rozy back. Hell of a 6th defenseman and with him and Leddy on the 3rd pair the Hawks once again will have the best d-corps in the league.
What having Roszival/Leddy as our 3rd pairing did was alleviate some of the ice time from the other pairings, because they were able to play more than your typical 3rd pairing. The balance allows everyone to stay fresh for the playoffs.
I don't think Roszival will hold up to well, but I'm still hoping they can sign him for 2 ish even if it takes 2 years. I'll be alright with a two year deal but I'll be hoping they can unload that contract later. He's a veteran dman with a ring now, so a I still think there is value for the 2015 season if they're stuck with his declining skill set next year. I'm not sure how worn down or healthy he is. Wish I knew more.
If he misses a big chunk of the year, that's alright too because of Brookbank. Just about everybody uses around 9 or 10 dmen, so I do want them to sign another veteran dman if they don't land Roszival.
Yeah, to me getting Rozi and Leddy signed ASAP is the next on Stan's list.
No reason to try and change what is already a good thing, and Brookbank and Stanton are suitable replacements for any injuries. Brookbank is slow but he didn't completely embarrass himself and can give you maybe 20-30 decent games for injuries and to give Rozi days off.
