Good point. Peverley is a ridiculous ~60% faceoff winner when taking draws. I don't know how he slots as "pure C" in terms of positional play, but I wouldn't mind having someone like Smith in that role when Peverley's around to take draws.

In fact - are there any effective low FO% 3C's in the league? They instantly become more valuable when they have Peverley riding shotgun with them to take draws.

JStaal used to be terrible. Berglund continues to be. I'm sure there are more examples.

Hell there's enough rumours out there now to fill up 2 rosters worth of bottom 6's.

Hopefully we actually see some of these awesome phantom trades become reality soon.

Peverley plays all 3 forward positions from what I understand and can play up and down the lineup. With Boston needing to shed salary I think he will be on the way out for sure. He would be an amazing addition to this team.

He would be taking Horcoff's spot at #3 C.

Didn't Hall bust Clutterbuck's knee this past season?

I would be happy to see Paajarvi-Peverly-Stalberg as our third line next year. Jones-Smyth-Brown as the 4th line is tolerable.

It was coincidental though

Boychuk would be a player I would want off the Bruins.

Not sure that would be doable and he does have a NTC.

What did I miss? Why is everyone talking about Clutterbuck.
Russo reporting this?

There's no way they move him at that beauty of a cap hit. If they need to move salary they'll move Peverley. 3.5M for a #3 defenseman that plays as well as Boychuk does is something you hold onto.

On the scale of likelihood this is beyond "plausible" and quite well into "very unlikely" - the chance of him getting dealt.

I'm in full agreement, to somehow get both he and Peverley would be a dream.

In my opinion if Smyth is still playing regular minutes at the start of the season then we will not be making any sort of run at the playoffs. We need to be better.

Russo is reporting that EDM is hot for Clutterbuck and trade talks have involved Tyler Pitlick. We'll see if it goes anywhere.

I'm sure it would be water under the bridge and they're professionals can't hold grudges

TJ Galiardi out in SJS plays a similar game to Clutterbuck - probably could be had for 1/2 the price.

I didn't think that was a major issue for us this year. Even if it was, adding fighters to the third line isn't going to protect the skilled players in our top six.

I'd rather we spend our time looking for third liners that contribute offensively, defensively and physically instead of wasting our time looking for players that fight on a regular basis.

That's what Chicago does.

I could definitely live with that for next season, though I'd still prefer if one of Brown/Tootoo was the 13th FWD.

We need players with sandpaper. Not goons. Guys who can play as well as hit, battle and if need be fight.

Our team is pillow soft, and anyone with any grit has been run off the last few years. That has to change and it has to change right away. Or else we are really going to get run over by our new divisional rivals.

Hemsky is absolutely useless in this regard. We are already loaded with scoring talent in the top six. We need to fill out the roster with grit, not players like Hemsky.

Coward Clutterbuck is a joke piece of garbage hockey player who shouldn't be within 1000 miles of this hockey team.

No hockey makes some of you certifiably nuts.

Not to toot my own horn or anything but if you read through the thread I mentioned Clutterbuck and Tootoo, both looking like they might be traded here.
Could you go over the rumours/players in play that you mentioned earlier? I must have missed it.

You gotta expand on this buddy. Clutterbuck is a heavy hitting train on ice that can put a couple goals up to boot. He's exactly what we need.

The same can be said for the Dustin Brown's and Alex Burrows types because watching them cause a ruckus against your team is terrible to watch. However if given the opportunity you'd have to take them on your team.

29 teams in the league hate those players, that's a good thing.

Maybe we should extend Hemsky instead?

He plays a cheap, cowardly game that endangers his teammates and is an embarassment to hockey. He is not tough, taking on only players he has no business messing with. In the pre-instigator era a fighter would probably have bashed his face beyond recognition by now.

You want players who are tough and play an honorable game. He does not. It is all knees, charges and hits from behind. Garbage. Absolute garbage.
