Yet Couts is the one who's actually shown really good things in the NHL and you're the one talking about how players haven't accomplished anything. The point isn't if Couturier is as valuable as MacKinnon. The point is that young unaccomplished players can have high value in trade. The answer is yes and you know the answer is yes.

Sure they can have a high value, and so can highly accomplished goalies.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Can't see Philly being interested in a goalie who isn't locked up for a while. They need to trade for a slave who has a few years on their contract so they can't leave as soon as the season is over after seeing what a **** show that organization is for goaltenders.

Why would Philly do that?

On the flip side, they might want to get to know a guy before committing to him. A trial period could be a huge bonus for them.

How about Miller for Read and Meszaros. Seems to be a lot of talk about Mesz being the next d-man run off the Flyers roster. It isn't futures, but it does fill the Sabres needs for a mid-pairing d-man and a mid-line forward while taking back a 1-year-to-UFA forward and someone the Flyers may be trying to oust to free up cap space.

I'd rather take Coburn.

Mez is an injury prone, expensive, righty who's mediocre defensively.

But we have an owner who wants to do the full rebuild, and they have an owner who doesn't seem to ever want to rebuild. They might be in trouble, but I bet their top priority internally is still getting ready to compete next year.

I doubt Coburn's offered up without Buffalo kicking in substantially more.

"If they really want Miller". Not sure they would, but Holmgren isn't into rebuilds, he's into winning now every season.

Eh, I'm not sure Pegula is all that interested in a full rebuild after his comments about Vanek and Miller extending.

To a point, you're right but two things.

1. Philly is a NHL player destination. Players want to go to Philly. They show they try to win, are always competitive, etc. Miller's list of eight I'm sure doesn't include Philly.

2. After Smith re-ups in Phoenix, please tell me 1 Western team that needs a goalie, or will next year when he's a UFA? There isn't one. Philly is perfect for Miller for the next 3-5 years.

I doubt Philly is worried about him walking on them. Give them Miller at 50% salary and ONLY if Coots is the main piece coming back. Darcy needs to play "you've been trying in goal for twenty years, solve it for the next five right now. You still have two elite centers in Girioux n Schenn."

Get it freaking done at 11:01pm tonight Darcy!!!!!

Eh. Defer to the process or re-trench with "we need to sit down with them and map out a course that is best for both sides". Talking about extending them gives false hope to those who think this process is going to be quick/short/easy.

Wow gonna be a lot of disappointed people if/when Miller gets traded. Your not getting a player like Sean Couturier or a prospect like Strome. It's not even close to realistic. I'd be fine with a Meszaros and Read package for Miller. If we're out of the playoffs this year (which I expect us to be) Read could return us a decent pick as could Meszaros. It also helps us to not force some of our younger players into roles that might be too much for them.

Yep, wasn't really happy with how Pegula said that. He could have expressed a similar sentiment in a way that didn't seem way too affirmative in the face of what Darcy had been saying since the trade deadline.

I'll just assume it has more to do with Pegula talking from his heart and nothing to do with front office operations. Let's face it, he's not very good at talking about the Sabres.

I wonder if the Flyers would be interested in the Vanek-Miller combo pack?

Even if we kept salary on them we could only do it for this season. I would assume they'd only be interested in that deal if they could retain the players, yet I imagine they'd have trouble re-signing them under their cap.

Their highest paid player (Timmonen) is a UFA next summer.

Then you have the variable of Pronger's deal that takes up space in the off-season, but hits LTIR once the season starts.

The other interesting thing could be the possibility that Brayden Schenn's cap hit could drop coming off his ELC.

Plus, what does Miller's next deal look like given what Backstrom re-signed for?

It could be tough. But, the Flyers never seem to worry about the next season's cap.....

Extend both if acquired. They're young enough to be part of the solution going forward.

Agreed, ultimately. I wonder if combining them would improve or harm their value, though.

Im not wasting a Miller asset on Read and Mez.when you can pick up those assets rather easily thru other means. Miller needs to bring futures.
