Still a RFA at the end right? This is the best way to go with Berglund. Either he gets consistent and he will be worth a raise or he remains inconsistent and he gets what he gets.

His shooting percentage and 17 goals in 48 games was a big change. If I'm Berglund, I absolutely want a prove it contract like this. And even though I don't want him traded, if the Blues decide to package him up for a better center, a one year deal that ends in RFA status is about as tradeable as you can get.

Yep, if he's needed in a deal for an upgrade at center, this contract is the best way to go.

I definitely agree with the contract from both sides. The Blues can't afford to commit money long-term to an inconsistent center, and Berglund will want to prove that he can keep up the scoring pace from last year. If Berglund breaks out, though, this could definitely come back to bite the Blues.

If he breaks out, then they have what they desperately need and there's no reason not to pay him what he's worth. That's an occasion of extreme joy, not feeling like they got their ***** bitten. And is the plural of ass seriously censored?

This is fine. Berglund's never "breaking out," because he's not all that good. Hopefully this is a contract that gets traded soon.

Having seen that, I'll be surprised if Berglund is still with the Blues at the end of next season.

Derp. I thought he only signed a one year deal. In that case...

Come on Army, get Petro signed!

I'm good with 3.25. I'm past the point of hoping that Bergie becomes a legit 70 point 1C. I'm just hoping that he can consistently put up 50 points and be a reasonably significant contributor in every game. He's capable of doing that.

Berglund is what he is. He's a 45-50 point 2nd-3rd liner. He's a fine player, but nothing special. I suppose the Blues are giving him one more year to really see if he has another level. But next offseason he'll be 26 so I predict he won't change. He's not gonna break out, but I'm good with this contract. At least it's a good price.

I'm a bit surprised Berglund would take that contract with so many games under his belt already. Nice contract for Armstrong and the Blues.

I don't see a way this is a bad deal for the blues. there's 3 main possibilities 1) his contract is attractive enough to make him a significant piece in a trade for an upgrade 2) he doesn't break out and confined to a life of second or third line at a similar salary # He breaks out and the blues get a #1 center and are willing to give Berglund a raise he earned.

It is highly, highly unlikely Berglund is going to have that kind of "break out".

Unless we see him as a trade piece, then it isn't a very good deal. If Berglund is putting up in the region of 45 points, then he is very much worth $3.5m. Turris is a pretty good comparison here (5 years @ $3.5m). So even if he just goes along as he is, then this is basically his price range. If we see him as part of the team going forward, then if he puts up 60 points next season then it puts us in a very awkward position. It'll take more than 1 season to prove "consistency".
