It doesn't seem right starting a rookie at 2C when you've won 2 cups in 4 seasons.

Sharp-Toews-Kane
Saad-Bolland-Hossa
Bickell-Shaw-Smith
Morin-Kruger-Frolik
*Bollig, Carcillo*

Keith-Seabrook
Hjalmarsson-Oduya

Olesz gets bought out, Montador probably gets traded to a team that needs to reach the cap floor and needs defence depth because he only has 1 year left(NYI or Florida). I hate the fact that we might need to trade Bolland but hopefully the hawks package him with the first round pick to move up in the draft or for a future pick. Frolik is another interesting player that could be traded because he shows that he can be a role player but has top 6 upside. Leddy gets 3 years at 2m aav, kruger hopefully around the same Bickel will get 4 years and take 2.5-3m a year. Marian Hossa is the prime example why I hate picking players off of free agency as he is 35 next year and the hawks have him at a 5.275 cap hit for 7 more years so they might have to trade him before he loses all value.

Also does any one know what Patrick Kanes conn smythe bonus is because that gets added onto next years contract? I'm assuming it's the same as Toews which will give kane a 7.6 cap hit.

i was under impression those bonuses only applied on elc's, but i could easily be wrong. either way, cup win>>> loss of some cap space next year

Teams had chance to take Monty and didn't want him

I don't see anyone trading for him

I don't think Bickell is brought back if they intend to play him on the 3rd line. Bickell is going to be playing 1st/2nd line minutes somewhere for 1st/2nd line money.

I'm fully anticipating/hoping to see Morin/Pirri/Smith/Hayes/LeBlanc all getting a lot of opportunities to make it with the big club next year. [/vaguepost]

stop talking about 3rd liner or 2nd liner

we have had 3 scoring line and 1 defensiv line

The problem is... how much do you think Bickell will sign for with us? If it's all about the money he would get 4.5+ for sure. There would be a team giving him that money.

Based on what he'll be offered, the optimistic hometown discount the Hawks might get will probably be around 3.5 million per year. I don't see the Hawks paying that price if the plan is to keep him on a Bickell-Shaw-Stalberg type of line.

Toews' 2010 Conn Smythe bonus was from his ELC which put the Hawks over.

That why I stopped by. I'm curious as to what Bowman's intent is going to be with Drew as far as re-signing. I saw a lot of him last season, but he looks to be a top6 playmaker or bust in the NHL.

MIrtle just wrote that Compliance buyouts end on July 4th

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sport...medium=twitter

Buyouts have to be completed by 5 p.m. on July 4, and the players bought out will then be available to other teams when free agency opens at noon the next day.

I think Bickell is brought back and put into one of the top 2 lines. Likely the top line, its clear he Toews and Kane have chemistry and form a perfect line with a mix of everything.

He all but admitted he wants to stay and is willing to take a small discount to stay.

Plus with his re-emergence and Saad now up suddenly LW, which was a weak spot for this team suddenly looks like a strong point.

I want Carcillo gone, this team has his role filled with guys like Shaw, Morin and others and he just isn't enough of a skilled player to play on this team. He also takes too many stupid penalties. Would rather spend that .8-1 million elsewhere.

Are people really making lineups with Bolland at 2C?

Agreed on Carcillo, while cheap, if we want to keep everyone, we'd be better saving 250K and going with a guy like Smith.

We all assume Raanta to start as back up goalie but maybe they start with a cheaper option and ride Crawford the first 20 games or so. Then bring up Raanta later when they acquire a little cap space from the season progressing.

I don't assume it at all...I assume he's in Rockford playing everyday.

Yeah, it's definitely a way to create space as long as we don't fall in love with the backup.

Raanta is pretty cheap. His cap hit is $1,400,000 but that includes $475k in bonuses that most likely won't be hit.

Yes but say you can have a back up at $800,000 per. That $600,000 may be the difference between keeping Bickell, or say not having to trade Frolik and losing them. I'd rather keep Raanta in Rockford for 2 months than lose either of those guys. Even if you lose a game or two because your back up ins't as good, its worth it.
