if vinny is coming here it will be at 5M+ over 4-5 years... Prolly his last contract and will be many many suitors... I'd take him everyday of the week at 5m. Hopefully the habs see this as an upgrade not only on the rink but in marketing. Would be something else...

tell tale sign we will sign him is if we deal plecanek or desharnais over the weekend. Remember, teams are allowed to negotiate 1 week prior to UFa. since a buyout, he isn't officially ufa until he clears waivers 24hours later...

There's no chance we trade a center before the ink dries on a Lecavalier contract. No GM would take that risk.

I'm sure VL will get offered a lot more by Toronto Vancouver and/or NYR, why would he come to Montreal for less? Unlikely.

Also, at 2 years and 6 mil Chicago keeps Bickell. Why do you think they bought out Montador and Olesz?

I don't find it's deep. It helps that some big names are getting bought out because it was a very weak UFA class to begin with. Buyouts make it a bit better but still not good.

It doesn't take a genius to figure Bickell will get more than 2 years at 3 mil...best case he comes here at 5 years 18-19 mil because he knows MB.

Lecavalier best case scenario is 4-5 years at 5-5.5/year but I expect a few teams up the price.

At anything more than 3-4 years and 5 mil, I would think of just passing.

Bickell can sign a long term contract like you said 4-5 years which would reduce his cap hit, we don't know

As for Lecavalier I really believe it's not just about the money but more where he wants to play. I don't think Vinny would choose Phoenix over Montreal for a million dollars. Doubt he needs it. At the end of the day, it's going to be where Vinny wants to play, not who offers more

A lot of teams will be after Bickell, so 3.75-4 mil cap hit IS after extending it to 4-5 years to drop the cap hit vs 3 years and 13.5 mil.

I agree on Vinnie, if he really wants to come here I think MB would be interested but I don;t see him getting in a bidding war.

We HAVE to inquire for Lecavalier. Not only he can be a top center with size that can produce and make his team mates look better, but also he will push Plekanec at his perfect 2nd line center role (best in the league) and Eller at the 3rd line center role (again one of the best in the league) while leaving Galchenuyk mature his game at the wing.

At the numbers now...Lecavalier had a salary of above 7M, and obviously no one wanted anything to do with this contract. At 6,5M

His salary was actually 10 mil/year from 09-10 to 15-16.

lecavalier is gonna get 5/5.5M+ and bickell 4M+
if we do end up getting lecavalier(which i dont see happening) we would really have to trade either plekanec or DD, seeing as DD wont give us a good return it would have to be plekanec

Thankfully you are not our GM. Take one step forward with Vinny and two back by moving Pleks. Why would you care what you got back for DD???? Cap space if you want Vinny and hopefullt some gritty wingers with size.

Would you take David Bolland?

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=426445

1 year left at 3.3, 27 years old, Bergevin connection.

Would you take him and what would you give up?

He makes too much to be a #3 and he failed as a #2 in Chicago. He's also injured a lot(83 games last 4 years incl lock out shortened year). Plus he would basically replace Eller, not a good thing. Really poor fit unless MB sees him on the wing.

The Habs got 9 million left with 20 players signed and a shot at VL ...If Habs focus on Bolland and not VL,there is gonna be outrage in Quebec.

Thankfully your not a GM either. Nobody likes a no it all. Fact is that Bickell WILL get 4 mil plus and Vinny WILL get 4.5-5.5 mil. Its the general consensus. Please

Bolland is a great player but way too injury prone.

If we're already going after Vinny, last thing we need is ANOTHER injury prone centre.

They should just offer Gionta to NJ retaining some of his salary for the last season of his contract and bring in Lecavalier & Bickel or Clarkson. That would be a sizable improvement. Other UFA on my wish list suddenly don't look like great options, except for Iginla & Scuderi maybe.

Not that too outlandish tbh... Still got Eller, DD, and Galchenyuk that can slot in 2 or 3rd C. Signing Lecav will open doors for Mtl. Instant team improvement.

You do not trade Pleks if you want to contend. Trade DD there dodo. Maybe St.L or Ana will just sign Vinny if they need a center. Why trade for Pleks? Trade Gionta, Moen and bring in Bickell and Clarkson.

Just as an aside... I would put a lot of effort right now into trying to get Calgary's 1st round pick for 2015. They are going to be terrible for a while and have shown a propensity to give up picks to get better in the short term. We should do whatever we can to separate them from that pick because McDavid is being drafted that year and it won't shock me at all if Calgary is the worst team in the league. Regardless, it's likely to be a high pick.
