From Halifax, I agree that Weegar will be one of the top D in the league this season. I would say that he even outplayed Abeltshauser in the last half of this season.
There's also Matt Murphy, who is a bit of a wildcard. The potential is there for him to be among the best in the league, he just really seemed to struggle to find an identity this past season. One shift, he looks like a stud, the next he looks completely lost. If he does break out, it might not be until 2014-15.
Who are the top-5 defensemen for the upcoming season? Dillon Fournier, Mackenzie Weegar, Jimmy Oligny, Petr Sidlik, Ryan Culkin
3 young Ds that will breakout this season? Julien Bahl, Maxime Gravel, Olivier Leblanc
3 veteran Ds that will have great seasons? Guillaume Gelinas, Sean Girard, C-D Beaudoin
3 rather unknown defensemen that will emerge? Scott Carrier, Allan Caron, Felix Boucher
Your team's top-6 on D for this upcoming season (as it stands)? Picard-Bahl
Best blueline among the 18 QMJHL teams? Rimouski
I think Beaudoin will emerge as a top-4 defencemen for the Armada. You are selling him a little short by having him as a no. 6/7 defenceman. Granted he is a year older but he was much better than Sching-Gomez in Midget AAA. In fact, Beaudoin was the second best D in that league behind J. Roy. Bouchard has been praising him since last year's training camp.
In fact, I would not be surprised if he'd be that 17 year old rookie defenceman who ends up drafted at the next NHL draft. I expect him to be drafted in the 3-5 round area. Mark my words!
