With the names of players being bought out right now(Briere, Lecavalier, more to come I'm sure) and what's already going to be available(Horton, Clarkson, Weiss, Bickell) it seems more and more likely that Filppula is going to be finding his long term, $5mil+ AAV contract in the basement of the Alamo... Here's what I'd like to see:

CAPGEEK.COM USER GENERATED ROSTER

Oh please, you know me, I'm one signing away from putting on my Red Wings cape and running down the street with 'Red Wings, my Red Wings!' blasting.

I am in love with this lineup. If this is our lineup next year what will we have to complain about!?

Tatar not getting enough minutes, of course.

Where a name falls on a lineup has no real indication of how many minutes they get. Filppula would routinely be listed as the #3 center and still get 15-17 minutes.

My point was that no matter how many minutes he gets, it'll be too few.

This is the part I really like; I see so many people spend right up to 64 when doing Detroit rosters and that's not at all how I believe Kenny is gonna approach it. Leaving enough cap space to simply absorb at least one impact player in an emergency is 100% on Holland's agenda afaict.

Cheers wings fan, that's a great roster. I'll be sacrificing a bucket of KFC to Jobu to help us get Vinny!

seems like only yesterday we all would've been doing line ups that included at least 3 or 4 of

Lecavalier
Weiss
Jagr
Briere
Horton
Clarkson
Bickell

but now we know to temper those expectations

Very happy with this roster if it were to happen except we don't need to buyout Bert. LTIR is preferable

What do you have against a guy who scored on pace for 61 points, positive Corsi of 7, still possesses an elite hockey sense at the age of 41, played against above average competition, and made his team better on the ice than when he was off it?

1) he isnt worth 4.5m
2) he doesnt have the legs for an 82 game season and a playoff run. He proved that in Philly.

1. 60 Point forwards are awarded more than 4.5m
2. But he missed only three games in an arguably worse situation for his health (48 games with no training camp) than an 82 game schedule with camp. Not to mention, he missed just 9 games in 2011-12.

...and further proved it in Boston, during a 48 game season.

Jagr would have been a good option 5 years ago, not now, we don't need another Modano.

In Boston, for 10ish games after being traded from Dallas, where he was stuck on the third line, on a team that doesn't fit his playing style. Nevermind what he did in the postseason.

Not having the legs for a full season has way more to do with him skating in quicksand now rather than missing games... Dude is SLOW. He has Holmstrom wheels now, and I'd rather not have Pavel consistently waiting on 68 before setting up the offense.

Can't argue with his hands and offensive skill, just don't think he is a good option to strengthen the top 6 at this stage in his career.

The shorter season was ideal for him- fewer games for a guy with not much left in the gas tank. A full season of games and I don't think he's nearly effective at the end.

He started on the 3rd line with Boston but quickly moved up to play with Bergeron and Marchand on the 2nd line. Those 2 are pretty skilled linemates and their D move the puck pretty well, so he wasn't joining a lineup lacking skill IMO. He basically replaced Seguin who dropped to the 3rd line for the end of the regular season and the PO's.
