Well that'd be a bad strategy considering that could linger on.

I'm sure Armstrong has his potential contract already budgeted in so he knows how much room we have.

Jackets signed Horton to a 7 year deal. So glad they aren't in the same division or conference as Blues.

7 years though. I'll wait for the money, but that is a looooong time for a Horton type player.

$5.3m average for Horton. I imagine that is going to be ugly in the last 2 or 3 years.

Clowe gets $4.85m for 5 years from the Devils. That looks brutal.

5.3 AAV, $30 mil. in the first 5 years. Not bad.

Really looking at the numbers we don't have the budget. Also waiting will let the guys get the big contracts like Riberio just got. To me he just is not a 5.5 million a season guy. All the guys will be snatched up with the left over players who still are comparable to sign for a much more reasonable contract.

Still Horton wasn't very healthy I just don't think investing 7 years in him is a good idea.

Scuderi completes his Penguins deal. $13.5m over 4 years.

Yeah, the injury issues that surround a Horton type player is what makes that deal so questionable. With what the cap could potentially be in 5 or 6 years, $5.3m could be a good deal... I think there is a better chance that it is a problem contract at that point.

Horton's surgery this summer means he won't play until December.

Both bad contracts. I wonder what this means Stewart will get...Unfortunately compared to other players he should easily be asking for 5 mil.

Glad to see the Isles signing some guys, I want them to stay competitive.

MacArthur signs for $6.5m over 2 years in Ottawa. Decent deal.

Cullen might be headed to Nashville. I just hope we get Grabovski.

LeBrun talking about Cullen potentially ending up in Nashville. Considering what they paid to Gaustad last year, I suppose there is a good chance they'll overpay Cullen as well.

I think we will have a lot of disappointed people here when we don't make a big move today. I think our hands are pretty tied with Pietrangelo unsigned.

If our hands were really tied I doubt we'd be going hard after Weiss.

Armstrong is trying to make something happen, no doubt.

Look at the numbers in the budget to sign Pietrangelo and Stewart. Someone offering Pietrangelo over 8 million is a possibility you have to consider. We can't make moves that will force us into trading other players to cut payroll.

Weiss is going to get 5.5 million a year I do not have any interest in him at all at that rate. Most of the FA centers who sign today will be over 5 million a season. Where do we get the money to sign them and fit everything in our budget?

@NHLbyMatty: Weiss is going to be $6 mil a year signing for Wings or Blues .... That appears to be what it's coming down to.

That scares me.

3.5M per year for Cullen with Nashville.

Also glad we didn't go there, that's just a waste of money that would have prevented us from getting a top-line guy.

So...

Clarkson to the Leafs. 7 x $5.25m. Despite my concerns about injury with Horton, I'd rather have the Horton deal that this.

Cullen to the Predators. 2 x $3.5m. Not a bad price, not sure about the second year.

Weiss to the Wings. 5 x $4.9m. Good deal for the Wings in comparison to a lot of these other contracts being thrown around.

Wow, not bad at all for Weiss.

I don't want Filppula...

Sign Grabo, he'd be cheaper and would be a shorter deal.

We won't even get Grabo either. He'll sign with Nashville.

I don't want Weiss at 5 million a year. Maybe they are just saying the Blues are in it to get more money from Detroit.

Nashville signs Hendricks as well. They don't have any more room at center now.
