We would be trading Malone to clear capspace, that deal actually adds it.

Malone to Calgary would make sense we have lots of cap space.

How about...

To Buffalo:
LW-Ryan Malone
D-Victor Hedman

To Tampa Bay:
LW/RW-Thomas Vanek
D-Tyler Myers
D-Jerome Gauthier Leduc

-Tampa gets an upgrade at the wing and a guy that can improve the talent on the wing and form a nice trio with Drouin and Stamkos, allowing Purcell, St. Louis, and Filppula to round out the top-6. They take a chance on Myers but he has immense potential, has shown the ability to be a great defneseman, and a change of scenery might help him, especially in a smaller market. Gauthier-Leduc is a defensive prospect with very good pp-QB potential, so it helps even it out a bit.

-Buffalo gets a veteran who can show the young guys the right way to go about their business and an upgrade at defense

-Also, as a Buffalo fan, I'd be willing to upgrade Leduc to McNabb, who's bigger, more physical, with 2-way upside and is on the cusp of being NHL ready.

+ Buffalo would retain $3M of Vanek's salary for this year.

I personally like Malone....he goes to the net, he's physical, he scores every now and then (20 goals, 28 assists, 2 years ago) - when he's healthy, he's a pretty good player.

I though the pick was supposed to be "Enticing". I was thinking 2nd -3rd rounder

Of course. I would also do Stone for Connolly. Phoenix and Lightning fans have agreed on two trades, get them done GMs.

He's never healthy which is his biggest problem,

I'd do it just because Schultz has one year left and I doubt Tyrell is a big part of the plan in Tampa Bay.

As an Oilers fan, definitely yes to Malone if he came super-cheap. I doubt he waives his NTC though... Florida is a nice place to live

PHX and TBL really are such good training partners. I'd be happy to turn Malone into anything serviceable on the defensive end.

Don't undervalue the appeal of playing where your wanted, if Edmonton spoke to him and were passionate about him in Edmonton I think he would waive, nobody wants to play were there not wanted.

LA wanted him so much they "traded" for him twice the year they won the Cup and he blocked both moves so he might be pretty adamant about not wanting to play in the West. That being said he no longer has a NMC but a limited NTC so he does have less say than he did.

It was twice? Really? I thought it was only once and that was 2 years ago.

Why didn't New Jersey trade for him? Better than signing a 5 yr contract with Clowe, no?
