Oilers would definitely bite if he can be convinced to waive his NTC.

He hasn't really attempted to adapt the roster to Tortorella's specs, yet, either.

Canucks have a steady back up goalie that might go to Florida? What I'm afraid of, is how Gillis sweetens the deal. He might accept equal salary back, pay part of Luongo's salary and add Edler.

So, something like Malone, Ohlund and a goalie for Luongo (50% salary?) and Edler and Vancouver's first round pick in 2014?

Is this guy for real?

Malone for Liles is an excellent deal for both sides.

Malone makes so much sense for the Oilers that it'll never happen.

How is this excellent for Tampa? If he was some years younger and right handed he may be a good partner for Hedman but right now he would be 3rd choice LHD and he makes way too much for that.

How bout Franson? We will add of course.

Because Hemsky makes more than Malone and we have absolutely no need for him. He's not gonna replace St. Louis or Purcell on the top 2 lines and he isn't a 3rd liner. What we'd want for him you wouldn't want to give up so there is no deal to be had.

Lefthanded D who is signed for longer than Malone and not at a drastic savings, I'd rather just place Malone on waivers and hope for the best than take Liles if he was our only option.

I wish the Pens could borrow him for the playoffs and then UPS him back to Tampa after.

To Calgary: Malone, 2014 2nd round pick, 2015 2nd round pick
To Tampa Bay: Michael Cammalleri (50% cap retained, 3M player), Derek Smith, 3rd round pick in 2014

That doesn't fit. Say what you will about Malone, his deal isn't that bad. Actual salary is cheap this year and can still be somewhat productive, and the contract expires soon.

No thanks. What if we got Malone and Connolly for Gio +

Again, its a 4.5 cap hit for 2 seasons, and 2.5 in actual salary. With his hands and past production, its far from bad at this point. Three seasons ago? Absolutely. Now? Not so much.

Ugh, you'd have 100k less cap space and one more open roster spot. You'd then absolutely have to move either Orpik or Fleury (with the latter being somewhat less likely).

I don't see the Pens as a team willing to take that whole cap hit and Tampa would probably rather get rid of it all for a 7th than retain half for a hockey deal.

At best Malone is negative value. Liles isn't. One less year is the value to the Leafs along with doing Liles a favour.

If he was negative value he would've been bought out already. If he was bought out he would go to the Pens so if you want him pony up with something better.
I also don't see how Liles has better value when he has a year longer on his contract and was a healthy scratch. I'm glad you're doing him a favor because you aren't doing Tampa one.

Yes. It's nice having an owner who cares more about his teams success than profits.

How many years left for Malone? I feel like he's be a great addition for the Oilers. He'd play 2nd line LW with Gagner/Nuge and Eberle/Yakupov. He can fight and is big, so he'd kind of play kindergarten cop for the young guys. Hemsky should be traded. He's a very good player who basically kept the Oilers from being a joke for a few years, but he doesn't fit on a third line and isn't going to beat out Eberle or Yak for top 6 space.
