Just to put things into context. Last year, aside from Parise, no other UFA forward signed for more than 4.5 million per season. And that list includes:
Whitney
Jokinen
Jagr

So you have to look and say...is Horton better or worse than those guys. Should be noted that all 3 were signed to shorter deals too.

I think Horton can look all he wants to, but no one will offer 6 million per. I could see someone doing 5 mill though.

Sounds fine to me. He is a 50-60 point winger who is huge in the playoffs. Almost a PPG in 40 games.

Why is anyone even surprised by this, he's a former 3rd overall pick, he's won a cup, clutch in the playoffs and is still capable of getting 50 plus points and its free agency like teams don't have a history of overpaying.

Not sure why ppl are surprised, while his cap hit was 4M on his expiring deal, he had 5.5M on the last year in real dollars, of course he is going to want have his next contract start at that. Also if you look at how is an upcoming free agent, Horton is only the legit top 6 winger under 30(Bickell isn't proven top 6 forward get to me), almost everyone is 30+ on the open market. I think he'll get 5.5M 6M easily

About 2 million too much, and about 3 years too long.

Not a chance would I give this to Horton.

He's worth more. Parenteau etc. got like 4 years 4 million and Hudler. Horton is better than both of those guys, but he also has worse injury history.

There's way too much uncertainty to warrant that money (the concussion histories, the lack of healthy seasons as some mentioned.) He deserves no more than 5 mil, but then someone is bound to overpay if Gonchar gets 5.5

Horton, like most Bruin players, would be much less effective on pretty much any other roster in the league.

He's only as good as he has been because of the Bruins team. Bruins should do everything they can to keep him but if some other team pays him 6 per let them do it and be disappointed.

I laughed at may take less to stay in Boston. He's going to have to or he's gonna be gone.

It is only worth it to overpay 1st liners and elite players. 2nd line overpaid players rarely work out.

Grabovski
Penner
J. Blake
Lombardi
Cammalleri (did have an 80 pt season though)
D. Jones
Cole
Ryder

If I'm Boston, I would get rid of Marchand to make room for Hortons new deal. Especially taking into consideration what they paid to acquire him.

Florida sent forwards Nathan Horton and Gregory Campbell to the Boston Bruins for defenceman Dennis Wideman, the 15th overall pick in that year's NHL Entry Draft and a third round pick in 2011.
