Yeah, most of us liked the Kelly/Peverley signings at the time, but we didn't exactly agree with the NTCs... This is why...

Even though he's probably not allowed to chuck 'em anymore because of his issues, he is one tough SOB. He knocked Peckham into concussion land when they squared off, a few years back.

I'm sure it's already been said, but asking and getting are two very different things. I think to stay in Boston, he can't get much more than 5 per; if that much.

For more than that, the B's could sign Brad Boyes and Michael Ryder. I actually am a bit torn on Horton, I really want him back, but I think Seguin would benefit greatly from playing with Krejci and Lucic, which probably isn't going to happen as long as Horton is there.

I was at first shocked, but then remembered that he's a power forward in a thin FA year, entering his "prime years". Someone will probably give it to him.

**** no. 6 mill is the upper limit of what he should get paid, and 5+ years is just scary with his injury history and streakiness.
Not to mention his stats don't justify anywhere near the contract he is asking. 62 was his career high in points, and once he has hit 30 goals. not a 6 mill a year kind of guy.

I wouldn't go higher than 5m for 3-4 years. Let him walk otherwise

Just like Bozak wanting $5 million this sounds like the starting point for negotiations. It has also been said he would take a little less to play in Boston than anywhere else. So if he says $6 million and the team says $4.5 million I would expect it to get done for $5.25 million

At six years and 6 mill I hope he goes to the Habs, says the Leafs fan.

Despite his excellent playoffs, I never realized how poorly Horton did during the regular season. 22 points in 43 games is not worth 6 million, especially with the injury concerns.

He's gotta try right? Some team will probably give him dollars close to that.

I think he's going to have to take something like a 4yr/$18-$20m deal if he's coming back to Boston

Someone will give it to him. When rumours to start to cine out about Bickell/Clarckson at 4+ mill a year you had to expect Horton to want more than that. Honestly, as a Sens fan I would give that to Horton if Alfie retires.

Not worth 6 mill.

Boston would be crazy to do that.

Let him go.

Would pay him that in Detroit.

If he winds up getting his melon squashed again, he just goes on LTIR.

Dats meet Horton, enjoy! Also allows Franzen to play with Zetterberg where he is better. Not every single contract you are going to have is going to be great. We can fit that in our structure, great if you can get him down a little, but that isn't what signing a UFA is really about. Does that figure work for you, in Detroit it probably does.

He was never worth that at any point in his career especially not after his injury. I think his value if the injury doesnt concern the team should be 3 year 15 mil and and 2 year 9 million to gamble that he'll bounce back

While I agree - (hopefully) you get what you pay for and in no way should Victor Frigging Stalberg ever be compared to Horton, unless we're talking about a race instead of playing hockey.

Nope. Horton's at the point in his career where he gets paid based on what he does do, not on what he might do. It was almost a decade ago that people thought he had #1 overall stuff. The player he is now is the player he's going to be. That guy isn't worth this much money.

I disagree, this is his value in a market where 5 years from now we could be looking at a 70 million dollar cap ceiling at lesat

I think Horton can look all he wants to, but no one will offer 6 million per. I could see someone doing 5 mill though.
Whitney & Jagr - 40 YO when signing their deals
Jokinen - 34 but 3 of 4 previous years were dissappointing

Horton - is going to be 28 and coming off a dominant play-off run where he averaged about .9 PPG. Those other guys are just not good comparisons IMO.

People talking $4-4.5M are WAY out of touch. If Zajac got $5.75 x 8, and Grabo got $5.5 x 6, I don't see how Horton isn't worth at least $5.5M. And he could give BOS a home town discount and sign there for less, but that's his decision.

I've never seen a guy so perfect for STL.

Tough, great player, perennially injured. He'd fit right in.

The comparison was just to show what the 2nd, 3rd and 4th highest from last year got. But when you look at production in compared to Whitney:
2013-Horton 22 Whitney 29
2012-Horton 32 Whitney 77
2011-Horton 53 Whitney 57
2010-Horton 57 Whitney 58
2009-Horton 45 Whitney 77
2008-Horton 62 Whitney 61 *
2007-Horton 62 Whitney 83
2006-Horton 47 Whitney 55

The last 8 years, Horton has 1 season with more points than Whitney...beat him by ONE point...in 16 more games played. When has Horton shown he is the better player? Never.

And as for the Zajac/Grabovsi comparisons...you are spot on. Of course lots of people today say those a bad deals and they are overpaid. Just like Horton will be if he gets that money.

That said...someone will give him 5 million.
