How would Staal+Boyle for 5th+McBain go over with Canes fans? Maybe another small + on the Ranger's side, like a mid tier prospect or one of our 3rds.

I'm going to risk an offer from the habs pov:
- Markov or Gorges
- 25th overall
- 34th overall
- 71st overall.

Insane enough?

Because I'm sure the OP's never seen Giordano play unless he was playing the Hurricanes, this deal's very, very fair.

2.5 (top pairing guy, or second pairing leader) D-man, on a great contract, brings leadership, grit, points and of course, steady defence + the 22nd overall for 5th overall?

There's a reason Feaster deemed this guy untouchable.

I think what the Canes would want from us is:

Tinordi
Prust
25th overall
+ something else because I don't even think that that's enough. But that's what the OP asked for. Maybe Collberg or Kristo.

I wouldn't do it if we're adding cause I like Tinordi's potential too much and Prust is exactly what we need, just saying what they would want from the habs.

OHHHH, was ganna say. Wouldn't be surprised if JR thought about Marc for the fifth, but since we dealt the 8th OA pick last year to get Jordan, I doubt he'd do it without some first rounder this year coming here.

Yes well that would be a no deal eh. I don't expect Montreal to be able to move up TBH. They always sucked at it. Maybe they'll be able to get up 2 maybe 3 spots..

Honestly, if M. Staal is coming to Carolina and the 5th is going back, I'd expect a more favorable deal for the Rangers. 5th + McBain + Dalpe/Di Giuseppe/McGinn/Rask for M. Staal (no +). If I were in charge, I'd pass considering we don't know how well M. Staal will recover from his eye injury and much to the chagrin of some Ranger fans, I feel like Carolina has a legit shot of getting him as a UFA in a couple of years. With that being said, I wouldn't cry if something like that happened as the Canes are ready to win now and he provides immediate help to an area of need.

This would be nice, both are what we need and one has the magical last name JR loves. Depends on if JR was adamant about his statement on wanting a first rounder coming back thats in or near the top 10.

And Big Daddy Cane, I think you're undervaluing the fifth pick this year.

Most Rangers fans besides myself think having Boyle in there is too much, but I think that, assuming we can sign someone like Lapierre to replace him, it's an ok trade.

I believe that one was the 5th OR Jeff Skinner for Marc Staal.

If you had said this last year, I'd have agreed with you. However, you have the issue of Marc Staal's right eye in play now, which could complicate such a deal. If he plays strongly next season, I could see this getting done at the 2014 draft, with the Hurricanes then extending Marc...I think that Marc Staal will be in Carolina before long, playing with his brothers.

OOOOOHHHHH, that could mean that the Flyers (11th OA) have been in talks with the Canes for their pick. It would probably cost us our 2nd and a mid level prospect (the most I can see homer giving up) but it seems like the Canes can get a better offer elsewhere.

If Jones is there at 5, the Hurricanes would be ****ing ******** not to take him.

Also, If they were to trade the 5th overall and Skinner for Marc Staal, I would give up on the Hurricanes entirely and profess my entire hockey fandom to the Minnesota Wild for eternity.

Barring a move from the Canes, Faulk will never be in Norris contention. Doesn't get enough exposure being in the market he's in.

However, his play could reach that level, recognition or not.

Are you sure you guys are Oilers fans not Canes fans?????? BAD

most I would offer would be 7th + 37th, would push for 7th + Ana 2nd + Rajala/Zharkov/Pitlick instead though, lots of players I like that could be around 37.

You forgot the part about the "Norris Finalist" being a UFA in a year.

Way too many players going to the Canes, especially lots with low value. Would never happen.

No one said they would trade both for Staal. It was one or the other.
