Blues re-sign Kevin Shattenkirk

Oh yeah! Now things are rolling.

Quote:
Jeremy Rutherford ‏@jprutherford 1m

According to a league source, the #stlblues have re-signed defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk to a four-year contract extension.
Strickland says it's about 17 mil which averages to around 4.25 mil per year. Great contract!

If Strick's numbers are correct, that's a great deal. Four years is good term, too.

Shattenkirk had best Points/60 of 5v5 play amongst Blues defensemen. Most 5v5 goals & 2nd most 5v5 assists..his PP #'s absurd too

Also, Shattenkirk was ranked 13th among nhl defensemen in 5v4 (PP) points per 60 minutes (4.5pts/60min)

Not the contract I wanted to see. Now Shattenkirk is getting better money then Voynov over a shorter time period, with his contract ending with Shattenkirk right in his prime. I think Shattenkirk's contract should have been a carbon copy of Voynov's at worst.

Hopefully we have better luck with AP.

JR just confirmed Strickland's numbers. It's 17 over 4 years at 4.25 AAV.

Awesome.

Exactly what I thought it would be. It'd be awesome to get the rest done before the draft.

Eh, pretty much the same dollars as Voynov (83 grand a year difference) and less term. Not bad.

I would've liked to have seen more term with the same money since Shattenkirk is going only get better and will be worth every penny of $4.25 in five/six years from now but it's solid.

Philly's board is saying the NHLPA should go off on Shatty because he should've demanded 5 or 6 million per year lol.

Shatty has one more year of experience than Voynov and with that extra year of service he earned something important Voynov didn't have - arbitration rights. I would personally pick Voynov over Shatty but given the increased leverage Shatty had, this contract makes perfect sense.

Good deal for both sides, you'd have to think that Shattenkirk is very happy that his next deal will be happening when he's still a very young man in his hockey prime.

Wow, I didn't expect Shattenkirk to go for a deal that small.
Nice work by Armstrong, questionable work by Shattenkirk or his agent.
I think this is great news for the Blues.

I'll be shocked if any other agent is happy about that contract.

Why? Shattenkirk is worse than Voynov. To date Shattenkirk is a solid offensive regular season dman and a playoff non-impact player. Be pissed about Voynov's deal first.

Look at Voynov, they are basically the same.

Voynov isn't arbitration eligible and has half the NHL experience. Voynov has the lowered cap hit because Lombardi skipped the bridge contract and tied it all together.

Total bias opinions, means nothing.

Anyone that believes he should have fought for more just don't get it, they're in love with big numbers instead of what's best for a franchise. It's okay for a team to have it's own salary structure and not cave to what appears to be the going rate (this is just bad business and is why other teams don't compete for long by giving out bad contracts on what could be).

Remember if a team is going to stick to it's guns they always have the leverage of, do you want to be here? But in this case he's still a RFA, so he can't just walk away.

You mean, players actually sign for the dollar amount we've been discussing for the past 2 years? I'm shocked.
