There you go. Discuss. Have fun. I'm getting my helmet.

If you're a stat tracker this might be true....if you watched Stevens shutdown Jagr to 1 point in a 5 game series, while scoring end to end game winning goals himself you might have another opinion.

So you are basing your argument on one 5 game series?

One guy has 5 Art Ross Trophy, 1 Hart, and 3 Ted Lindsay Award. The other guy has 1 Conn Smythe.

It is not even close and Steven is my favorite devil ever.

My argument is Jagr was never the cause of a championship... he was a rookie hanger-on to Mario Lemieux....Stevens was the crux of 3 championships....I think the meaningless harwardware is cute though. Marcel Dionne approves.

Stevens > Jagr.

You could get me to pick Gretzky and Mario ahead of both, but if I'm starting a team, nobody touches Stevens.

And Marty is one of the two best goaltenders of all time, so yeah, Jagr is nice.

Nice call with the Dionne reference.

Stevens head to head vs Jagr could make him disappear and be an absolute non-factor. I agree that Jagr is Pippin to Mario's Jordan.

Jagr to Pittsburgh's first two cups was like Jarri Kurri to Edmonton's first 4. You know what I mean?

maybe in the 90's, clutch and grab, but if you take stevens over jagr (stupid comparison anyway, rw vs defenseman) youre out to lunch

It is laughable to think anyone would take Stevens prime over Jagr's prime. Hockey is a team game and one player alone can't win a championship.

Jagr is a top 25 player - Stevens is more like a top 50.

Laughable? Let's put to aside the silly rules discussion. Hypothetically placing both players in their prime under this era's rules is speculative and adds nothing to the discussion, in my opinion. Let's put them in their prime in the era that they shared.

If you had to win one game, had two identical teams, who would you add on one team knowing the other team would get the other guy? Since it's a team sport and all. Who is the better hockey player. Who do you take? Scott Stevens or Jagr?

99 out of 100 people take Scott Stevens. You bemoan those who disagree yet it seems like your argument enhances the idea that Stevens is a better player. Hockey is a team game and one player alone can't win a championship, however Stevens enhanced and improved his entire team and made winning a championship 3 times a possibility.

Scott Stevens can shut down and nullify Jagr (he has) while Jagr can't nullify or shut down Stevens. Let's be real here. Stevens was a more impactful and better player than Jagr. He's the best skater to ever wear Devils red. Jagr is amazing but he's not Scott Stevens.

It doesn't make you more correct by saying someone else's opinion is 'laughable'.

If you watched hockey in the 80s, and 90s when both were in their prime, and saw them perform in the playoffs, you'd realize how your comments are really the laughable ones.

A team with one Scott Stevens sure seemed like it could beat a whole team of Jagrs.

I think if you asked Jagr he'd say the same thing.

not that it moves the argument one way or the other but I don't ever recall hearing someone say how hard it was to play against Jagr. That's something I've heard over and over by players in regards to Stevens.

Plus Stevens couldn't be rendered ineffective by Jay Pandolfo.

To think Scotty never received a Norris; a travesty!

I can't think of a defenseman I'd rather have, all-time. I'm sure I'm not alone in that.

Neither of them, because one is retired and the other will only be around a few more years.

Depends on how you view the game. Who would you fear playing against more?

If you're an offensive minded person, you'd probably want Stevens. If you are more a fan of the defensive game, I'd say you would lean towards Jagr.

Seriously though, the words "in today's NHL" make it a total no-brainer. There's no debate once that part is included.
