Pavelski is one player on a short list of players that I'd put Kassian in a package for.

It makes me sick thinking Galiardi is in the top 6. He is a third liner at his best. He brings Thornton and Burns down. I don't care about his energy...he is a diver/pest who is better suited with less skilled players. He can't provide any offence at all.

Pass.

I'd consider the Perron + deal

For me dealing Pavelski should return either a high-end winger which is on a reasonably priced contract for at least a few years (or still RFA). Or a 1st in this draft and prospect, quality of the prospect depending on the 1st of course. I would also entertain a Boyle replacement. Basically, we are pretty flexible.

His contract status hurts him a bit of course, but he's still a 1st line center on quite a few teams and a 2nd line center on almost every team who can also play wing pretty well (30 goals). He has a ton of value, even as a rental. I don't forsee a sign&trade situation btw, that thing with Seto was a fluke.

As we've discussed, Galiardi isn't a top-6 forward, but his skill-set suits Thornton and Burns perfectly. The idea that that Galiardi drags those two down is false. He isn't a creator, but he's still a useful guy to do JT's dirty work and has a reasonable amount of skill.

Anyway? As it stands, the Sharks have Thornton, Marleau, Couture, Pavelski, Havlat, Burns, Torres, Wingels, Galiardi, and Hertl as top-9 wingers going into next season. That's ten guys. With Havlat out for at least a couple months, Hertl a question mark, and the fact that in an ideal world I'd have one of Wingels or Galiardi on the 4th line (probably Wingels), we need at least one more top-9 guy for that group, ideally a top-6 playmaking winger to play on a shutdown line with Couture and Marleau. Basically, a guy like Havlat, but who can stay healthy. Perron wouldn't be a bad choice, provided Marleau can play on the RW (he's versatile enough). My top choice would be Filppula via UFA, however unlikely.

If we traded Pavs, we'd need two guys there. So depends on the return and on the direction the team wants to go in.

Hagelin-Stepan-Nash
Brassard/Kreider-Pavelski-Callahan

Would be great IMO.
I wouldn't mind something around MDZ for Pavs.

Vlasic-MDZ
Stuart-Boyle
Irwin-Braun

No doubt. Hasn't done much for the Sharks since bringing him in as part of the McGinn trade.

What would you send back to San Jose for Joe Pavelski? He has one year remaining at $4.

Btw, I'm not interested in a quality for quantity deal. For example, I would say no to Pavelski for a 2nd and 2 mid-level prospects or bottom-6 players.
Isn't TML offering up Gardiner for a center? Seems like a natural start to build a trade around.

I would not at all mind a Gardiner+ for Pavelski deal. Obviously depends on the plus.

Id consider the St. Louis deal if it was something like

TO SJ

Perron
2nd
Philip McRae (guy who can your 1st call up/13th foward with a chance of still being a fulltime NHLer; since we're going to need it at the beginning of the year since Havlat is hurt)

TO STL

Pavelski

Marleau - Couture - Perron (or swap wing spots)
Galiardi - Thornton - Burns
Torres - Wingels/Hertl - Wingels/Hertl/Sheppard
Shep - Desi - Burish
McCrae

Then when everyone is healthy.

Marleau - Couture - Havlat
Perron - Thornton - Burns
Galiardi - Hertl/Wingels - Torres
Shep - Desi - Burish

This of course is all contingent on if Pavelski does not want to sign with us. If he does I probably hold onto him.

As per discussed in the Sens 3 for 1 thread.

Something around

Noesen+Conacher+Hoffman/Smith/Obrien/Dacosta for Pavelski

Exchange of picks was also discussed.

Hmmm....

I believe San Jose would "win" this trade, but I think were I in Armstrong's spot this would be extremely enticing and would pull the trigger.

Unless they believe they can grab Stastny or Lecavalier, this may be the best option.

McRae seems as someone who desperately needs a change of scenery. Something for other teams to consider before drafting a member of management's son.

MDZ would be a good pickup to be honest. I don't know about straight up, but I would certainly consider it.

Pavelski is probably the best third line center in the league, Toronto would probably give up

Tyler Biggs/Jerry d'amigo/Carter Ashton, 2nd rounder, Kulemin

MDZ's the Jack Johnson of the East, people just haven't realized it yet. I'd much rather Jake Gardiner. Gardiner's a much better skater and smarter.

Considering it's doubtful that we'd even bring McRae back, sure works for me.
