SJ/DET/TOR/CAR/BUF Interested in Letang

Eklund says that San Jose and Detroit are the frontrunners, but also mentions that he has heard "murmurs about Buffalo, and more speculation about Miller to Pittsburgh.

Interesting that Buffalo is involved.
If I was Pittsburgh I would want Meyers +. Have to think that Buffalo would be able to talk to Letang's agent first so they know the likelihood of him re-signing.

What could San Jose and Detroit realistically offer to the Pens that would make trading Letang worth it?

He said SJ and Det "could" lead the way. Ie he is making things up and speculating.

Reality is Det doesn't have the pieces for a Letang trade.

With the contract he supposedly turned down from Pittsburgh, I don't want him in a Wings uniform.

Here I was nervous that Holland might do something stupid, but I see it's an Eklund rumor. Not much to worry about there.

because it would really hurt for the Wings to get Letang for that very competitive Wings offer of Kyle Quincey and a 4th round pick

I seriously doubt that Letang would have any Interest in Buffalo I would doubt he would resign for a rebuilding team even if they offered him the money he was asking for. San Jose and Detroit are possibilities. I seriously doubt that Shero would trade Letang to a Eastern Conference Team hence Buffalo. Detroit, Toronto He most likely would be traded to a Western Conference team for 1 year and then after Letang could go where ever he feels

'But its Eklund'

That remark has become more annoying than the rumors/speculation themselves. Enough.

First off who says? Detroit has one of the deepest farm systems in the entire NHL. The problem is are they willing to give up the pieces for Letang, And that all depends if Ken Holland is in a win win mode now for another cup run in a year or two. It pretty much sounds like he is.

Letang isn't worth more than what Pens already offered him, let alone giving up major assets before signing him to such deal.

You might be right on the assets portion but I don't know why people keep saying he's not worth the deal Pens offered him. He'd get more than that easily on the open market, which he can test after next year.

Personally, I feel Letang is easily worth the deal the Pens offered him and more.

I would love Letang to SJ, but it makes no sense at all.

We don't have the pieces that Pittsburgh would want.

I don't see anyone offering Letang a more lucrative contract then what Pittsburgh already put forth.

Exactly I dont know who his sources are, But there wrong 99.9% of the time. Eklund should have linked him to all 29 teams and he would have a little more validity.

I don't think San Jose would be willing to send back the package Shero would ask for, and I don't think Detroit has the assets Pittsburgh is looking for.

If Carolina is willing to send back a package around the 5th overall pick, I can see Shero listening. As for the Sabres, Miller and Myers for Letang and Fleury doesn't seem completely unreasonable - an upgrade on Fleury and a downgrade on Letang that saves salary seems like an overall win for Pittsburgh - but I don't know if the Sabres would be motivated to offer that package, especially considering Letang is very likely to be traded without an extension.

the thing is, we want a lottery pick next season, we're rebuilding ffs, there's no need for a rebuilding team to trade for a Norris trophy caliber defensman, we will just stockpile assets and then fill out the roster with responsible veteran players and make a push after 2-3 years of suffering, that's the plan.
