Lecavalier Bought Out - A Good Fit?

I know we are stacked at centre but a player his caliber doesn't become available too often... can we make room for him and can he play on the wing?

If the price is right, should he be an option if we can't get Ryan? I would take Lecavalier over Brière any day.

What's your take folks?

No.

Stupid.

Move on people.

He's going to get $20 000 000 over 4 years at minimum.

Terrible fit for Ottawa.

Redundant.

Not needed.

Waste of valuable $$$$ with our internal budget.

Can't wear #4.

Zibby and Turris suffer.

Stupid.

I would take him on a short-term deal.

Yeah, let's not block Zibby & Turris.

Sure, we'd love him for free, or for a short term deal, but it's time to just think rationally for a moment and be a realistic.

Is Vincent Lecavalier going to come to the Ottawa Senators on a two year deal at an affordable cap hit that Eugene Melnyk approves of? No. No he is not.

He's getting bought out. He's easily worth $5 Million a season. He's only 33. He's a legit #1 C that is good for 30 G & 30 A at least, if he is healthy.

You are seriously against signing one of the best C's in the NHL because he might take playing time away from Zibanejad and Kyle freaking Turris?

The reality is that Lecavalier would probably not choose to come to Ottawa.

BM better at least make the phone call.

How do you pass up an opportunity to land a player like this for nothing but cash?

He makes our team better and he's got at least 4 or 5 years left in the tank.

This is "no brainer" defined.

Signing Lecavalier would allow us to treade Zibby for someone like Eberle or Erikason. I am toally against trading Zibby but for that scenario I might make an exception.

How could we have a chance of getting Vinny? He has said he would only play for Tampa and Montreal (his home town) so he might think of Ottawa as a possible option.

I'd go 4 years 20 million
Spezza-Vinny would be a deadly 1-2

I'd be happy with that 1-2 going up against Malkin-Crosby

1) Agree that Lecavalier here would be amazing.
2) Agree that Cener isn't exactly our pressing need at the moment.
3) Agree that there's no way Lecavalier would choose us, for the $ we'd be willing to pay him, when there are better fits, for more $, on longer-term contracts than what he'd get with us.

He'll get paid large by a team with a GM who is desperate for a player like him (Washington?), or he'll go home to Montreal.

Did you read what I wrote?

I DID say that I'd love to sign him. Would I sign him for $25 000 000 over 5 years? No. No I would not.

I said it's not realistic that Lecavalier is coming to Ottawa. Continue to fantasize all you want.

Would be awesome if Lecavalier would sign here, he is a player you'd make room for IMO. But the chances are very low.

This same thread has probably been posted on every active team board already. That tells you something.

Vinny's "best before date" is up. With all of these buy outs recently I'm still amazed that owners continue to sign players for long term deals. What's a few million to have them not play for you!!!!

No thank you. He isn't a winger and we are fill on centers. Only way this happens is if Zibanejad is traded for a winger literally today.

These compliance buyouts come out of the players share of revenue

While I don't disagree that he's probably the best UFA on the market now, and it would be mistake to not even make an offer for the guy no matter how deep we are at center, I'm not exactly confident that Lecavalier is worth the amount of money or the term he is going to get.

It's no secret that he's declined significantly over the last couple years, and it's not exactly a guarantee that he'll regain his form in a new environment.

Lots of French guys want nothing to do with Montreal. It's too insane.
