1) Agree that Lecavalier here would be amazing.
2) Agree that Cener isn't exactly our pressing need at the moment.
3) Agree that there's no way Lecavalier would choose us, for the $ we'd be willing to pay him, when there are better fits, for more $, on longer-term contracts than what he'd get with us.
He'll get paid large by a team with a GM who is desperate for a player like him (Washington?), or he'll go home to Montreal.
He's getting bought out. He's easily worth $5 Million a season. He's only 33. He's a legit #1 C that is good for 30 G & 30 A at least, if he is healthy.
You are seriously against signing one of the best C's in the NHL because he might take playing time away from Zibanejad and Kyle freaking Turris?
The reality is that Lecavalier would probably not choose to come to Ottawa.
BM better at least make the phone call.
How do you pass up an opportunity to land a player like this for nothing but cash?
He makes our team better and he's got at least 4 or 5 years left in the tank.
This is "no brainer" defined.
While I don't disagree that he's probably the best UFA on the market now, and it would be mistake to not even make an offer for the guy no matter how deep we are at center, I'm not exactly confident that Lecavalier is worth the amount of money or the term he is going to get.
It's no secret that he's declined significantly over the last couple years, and it's not exactly a guarantee that he'll regain his form in a new environment.
