Lecavalier

espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/9428038/tampa-bay-lightning-buy-vincent-lecavalier-deal

is he a 100-point player anymore? probably not. would he be the blues' best offensive player from day 1? ya, i think so. not a half-bad postseason player, either.

so what about it? think armstrong should get in on vinny?

I think if army isn't looking hes not doing his job. the question is what kind of contract is vinny going to get? if its 3 year 9 million the blues better be in the running, if its 5 year 20 million I say its a no go. I honestly have no idea what he will go for.

I never thought they'd buy him out. But, if he comes to St. Louis, that would be a silver lining.

As long as we use him to convince Martin St. Louis to demand a trade making the most confusing event in hockey history when he ends up in a Blues jersey.

I'd love to have lecavalier on the blues. Hopefully he's cheap enough, as I think most teams will be looking at Weiss and Roy over him.

Yes! Now that would be a PR winner as well.

At one time he stated it he only wanted to play in Tampa or Montreal. Let's hope he changed his mind and is willing to sign a reasonable contract. I'd love him in St Louis.

Tampa likely won't bring him back, they can't afford much. Montreal won't if Pleckanec and DD stay.

Armstrong should be all in for him if this is true.

Tampa can't bring him back. Montreal might be interested though he is a hometown guy.

They will be for sure. It's up to Vinny to decide, though. I can definitely imagine (or daydream, if you prefer) a scenario where Vinny decides against the huge market and expectations to go to another low key area that are better cup contenders.

Vinik (their owner) just spent 30 million dollars buying him out when he didn't have to. Money is not an issue in Tampa.

teams can't re-sign players they buy out. so tampa's not a player in this. montreal figures to be, for sure. ottawa would love to have a frenchie, too, i'd guess. and toronto's been after a big center forever.

think st. louis' best chance would be if lecavalier decides he doesn't want to play in a canadian pressure-cooker. here's what his agent told tampabay.com:

"Listen, we're going to sit down and have conversations and start looking through various teams with possible needs, fits. He's got a young family. He's got to go through hockey-wise what fits and family-wise and make a decision."

if he's looking for a low-pressure situation for his family and a good fit hockeywise (like, for instance, a good team whose biggest need is for an offensively inclined first-line center), i think the blues could definitely be in play.

I doubt we can afford what other teams will pay so hopefully he goes to MTL and we can get Plecks for cheap.

I know. I was just trying to stop the misinformation of Tampa not having money.

The rumor in Tampa is Vinny will sign a 1 year deal elsewhere and then return to Tampa Bay.

lolol why? he has the chance to go to just about any team he wants to and actually contend. i figured they would buy him out, but im afraid if its money he's looking for, we dont have a chance. we could REALLY contend with a guy like vinny.

So apparently he'll only play in the East. That may drive up the price on other options, at least in the West.

Well I guess Richards can always be bought out and either come here or drive the prices down.

That may be possible, and I'm sure he'd love to play in say, Montreal, but nothing is concrete yet:

I think we'll definitely look into him, but if we don't get him I won't lose any sleep over it. With more centers available now it's more likely we get one, even if it's a 2nd-3rd line guy like Matt Cullen who I'd be okay with.

I'm actually pretty optimistic that we end up with a pretty good center considering how many are available not even counting potential trades.

I hope the Blues go for him, and I hope he considers coming here. I'd LOVE him on the team.

So there will be Vinny, Ribiero, Roy, Weiss, Richards. I'm thinking we get one.

Especially because none of the teams losing those players would be getting any of them IMO.

Well getting one of those guys would be pretty ****ing sweet and basically solve all of our problems in just one swoop.

Man I'm pumped for this offseason. The Blues can really enhance their team greatly just by making one move, and I think they will, whether it's a sign or a trade. They have to do at least something to change it up a bit.
