Why would Dallas want Vinny? Are they trying to compete this year? I figured they were going the rebuilding route trading away Roy, Jagr, Morrow etc.

I highly doubt money is going to be a significant factor here. He'll be getting $32.7m of the $45m left on his contract over the next 14 years.

I would imagine that by far the biggest factor here is balancing finding the best possible spot for his family and being on a competitive team. I'll be surprised if he ends up with much more than $4m, and astounded if he ends up at $5m.

If that is the case, it probably hurts the Blues chances more than it helps them.

I think everyone wants him. LeBrun tweeted that the Sharks are very interested, and they have no need at all.

rumor is he wants a one year deal so he can resign with the lighting. that would work well for the blues, since we can then sign stasny next off season. lots of ifs and speculations but that would be an ideal situation.

Eklund has us interested in tons of people. But for a team that needs scoring, he may be right. The Blues need to be looking at all options.

Lol at the Sharks being interested. They have no use for him at all, but that'd be cool if they got him and flipped us Pavelski for Perron.

LeBrun saying that Lecavalier could have a shortlist down to 1 or 2 teams by tomorrow afternoon.

This is going to turn into a bidding war. Vinny will recoup his lost $$$$$ with one of the usual suspects I'll say Montreal.

Spot on.

Pavelski would look great in a Blues Uniform

The rumor in Tampa is Vinny will sign a 1 year deal elsewhere and then return to Tampa Bay.
Vinny himself never said that? He said he's moving on from Tampa Bay and wants to sign a long term deal with his new team and finish his career there and hopefully win a cup with a contender.

Its nice that the Blues are at least in things to a level of seriousness that they're getting looks from the high profile UFAs. I'm excited to see what Armstrong crafts out of this post-season....and getting a lot more confident in what the budget is. The owners seem to understand that this team's window is open and its time to seize the moment.

Totally agreed. Still not expecting them to land Lecavalier but it is nice to hear them mentioned. Armstrong is at least showing interest and trying his best to improve this team.

I think he does a hell of a job for a budget team. I don't think a lot of people realize how hard that must be at times.

If we do manage to somehow snag Lecavalier, I would think that spells the end for one of our wingers. I doubt we'll be able to afford Lecavelier without having someone leave.

Agreed, and it would be either Perron or Oshie.

With Hitchcock as the coach, I can't see us ever parting with Oshie before Perron (barring some too good to be true type of deal where we get offered an elite center and Oshie has to be included - don't see this happening).

Does anyone believe that Armstrong would be willing to give him the term that he is looking for (5 years)?

He has given out 2 contracts of that length so far (Backes & Oshie) and Pietrangelo will make 3. Considering how conservative he is, I'm wondering if he considers 5 years for a 33 year old who has shown some slowing down as a prudent move.

Spoke to a couple of the teams who met with Lecavalier. All pitched their team model, city and his fit. Sense is Vinny is "spinning".

Predictable approach from teams. When it comes to city, team and position for him, you have to think the Blues should be one of the leaders.

He's narrowing it down to 3-4 teams over the next couple days.

That's good. We'll know before free agency begins who we can target and who we can't.

I think the max term I'd give Vinny is 3 years. After that it just gets too risky.

Sounds like it's minimum 4x4 and has a high as 5x5 according to the TSN boys.

Though I certainly wouldn't mind them signing Lecavalier and then dealing Stewart which would be almost salary neutral based on what we're hearing about Stewart's new contract.

4 years 4.5 per wouldn't be bad IMO.

Am I the only one a bit wary of this? I think there is the obvious pro of him being that possible 60-70 point center we have all been hoping for. However, he's clearly on the downside of his career, he hasn't put up 60 points in 3 years, and he has never been known as even slightly defensively responsible. 4 years @ 4.5 million is a pretty significant risk for us to take on a guy who could easily become Andy McDonald 2.0 by the second or third year of his contract. Also, unless we trade Stewart/Perron/Halak for something cheaper, 4.5 million takes us to the cap (Assuming AP gets 7 and Stewart gets 5) and we still have Russell or Leopold to re-sign.

You know that he's going to want a NMC......tough choice honestly, not sure he's the guy I want for 4 years.
