I wish we had a need for Hartnell. Always liked him.

Ouch, I totally forgot about that contract he re-signed last year.

Big name free agent? Let's throw a lot of money at him and hope he picks us over the Rangers!

Not according to JR:

Jeremy Rutherford ‏@jprutherford

Any interest that Philadelphia had in Halak is long gone, as the Flyers are facing salary-cap issues with the Lecavalier signing. #stlblues

Pronger goes on LTIR and they can take him.

Keep on dreaming, Halak alone will never get you Couturier.
If anything I can see Homer now pushing for Pietrangelo for the Schenn's+

Wow didnt think Id be so on with my guess. Heard the Blues wound up offering a 3 year deal..smart on their part to not go to 5 like the Flyers>would be regretting it within 3.5 of the deal.

He was never going to leave the east, and it appears he doesn't have the leadership skills The Blues were looking for after this decision.

Philly can have him, Tampa appears to have known what they were doing except they gave out a ridiculousness contract in the first place. Which is another example of why you just can bow down to these guys like they're GODS, organizations have to make smart decisions on every contract.

This league just can't afford this, it's the reason they've had two lockouts.

Good luck to him, I don't think the deal is going to be that bad for the Flyers. With depth like Giroux, Couturier and Schenn they should have flexibility going forward. If they are going to keep him as a centre in the later years, they'll need their Oshie/Steen on his wing.

I'm sure others have said it, but Scott Laughton for Halák seems like it makes a lot of sense now.

Nowhere did I imply it would be Halak alone, and even if I did, it would be decidedly less farfetched than the Blues trading Pietrangelo.

How does taking the best deal on the table equal a lack of leadership? He already has his name on the Cup, and just lost out on a bunch of money he was expecting. I really don't understand your point about a lack of leadership because he didn't sign with our team.

Also, you do realize that two completely different management groups were involved with the signing and buyout of Lecavalier, right? There was a change between the time they signed him to the absurd contract and the recent buyout.

If you go back in this thread you'll see I didn't believe he would sign with The Blues. But I was all for it, if it wasn't for too many years at too much money, the money isn't outrageous but the years are too many in my opinion.

I will admit I was a little harsh, but I still view it as being selfish and isn't what The Blues need when it comes to leadership. There had to be a better team that gives him a better chance at the cup. I would hope he would want to win another, in his mind he might believe he made the best choice, I just don't agree.

I did realize their were two ownership groups but the same organization, but my point remains the same, these are bad deals for the league.

Yeah I'm sure Homer will even come close to accomplishing that. OK.
