Not a fan of the term given how little he's proven. Hopefully the cap hit is low.

Lovejoy deal is three years, $3.3 million. 1M, 1.1M, 1.2M. 1.1M cap hit.

Again from Stephens.

Don't see what Lovejoy did to earn that term and amount but the cap hit isn't terrible. Keep him out of the top 4 and I'm not too upset with it.

Certainly seems like a lot considering without us bringing him in he's probably looking to sign in Europe next season.

I don't agree with giving Lovejoy a 3 year deal.

Cap hit is fine

I'm not going to be a big fan of this unless the cap hit turns out to be a huge discount. I just don't think it's a good idea to give longer term deals to bottom of the lineup players.

Edit: Cap hit is fine for a one or two year deal, but I'm not a fan of this contract.

So now we have 2 definite top 4 guys (Beauch, Fowler), 1 probable top 4 guy (Souray) and 3-4 third pairing guys (Allen, Lovejoy, Sbisa, Vatanen).

Depth is fine but are we going to be playing one of the third pairing guys in a role they're not good enough for again? Or does Sbisa finally take the next step and earn a top 4 spot.

I like it. It's a cheap contract. It's not like we can't just buyout the last year or eat half of the cap hit in trade. I don't see this as a deal that limits us in any way.

Either Allen or Sbisa is getting traded methinks. Please be Sbisa.

Actually now that you mention it - the so called experts did say depth guys would likely get more term this CBA to lower their cap hits. Thompson in Tampa getting 4 years was the start of that phase.

That's why I'm okay with it.

What has me a little nervous is what role Lovejoy is expected to play in. Does Murray see him as a 6/7 guy, or is he going to try to shoehorn him into the top 4 because he had a good playoff series?

That's exactly what I'm worried about.

I don't think Lydman is coming back after this signing, which is a shame. Lovejoy is fine #6, nothing more than that.

He may play there again in the short term, but it seems like they would still be eyeing Vatanen or Sbisa for that role over the bulk of that three year contract.

I have no problem paying a million for a very good 7th defenseman, was worried he'd want a lot more. Good to see we got it done.

Love the money and term.

He plays as well as he showed most the time, its a deal.
He has room to get better. He has room to decline and still be flippable in a trade.

He has energy and can skate. Something allen doesnt.

I`m happy with the signing.

He was on the better point pace than Fowler, lol

He isn`t a top 4 defenseman but he`s a very good #5. He is a right hand shot and doesn`t shy away from physical play. He`s 6`2 and 215. He had at least one fight i can recall from last season. Also seems that the boys in the locker room love him. Bobby already tweeted it and i remember he have a great relationship with Etem.

He brings a lot of little things and 1,1M cap hit isn`t the worst one. Definately happy.

On the side note: unfortunately this probably means we are not resigning Lydman, which is sad, because i loved him in Anaheim.

Lyman is gone for sure. I'm guessing this also means one of Sbisa, Allen, or Souray is gone.

I'm meh on this move. Not a huge fan of Lovejoy, but as long as he is outside the top 4 in fine with it. Cap hit isn't too bad.

what were you guys watching? Lovejoy played excellently for us (big pleaseant surprise), I am very happy with this deal and the term seems fine as I don't see Lovejoy regressing to a below million dollar D-Man.

Glad he's on a reasonable deal.

Good price for a 3rd pairing dman, and we keep a RHD in the team as well.

Good 5-6 guy who can do spot duty as a 4. Good signing.
