Tanguay was great for the first two season of his second stint in Calgary. But last year the number of unbelievably stupid plays started to sky rocket and his hustle and his enthusiasm were completely gone. Maybe this was because they were undergoing a rebuild but he pretty much gave up. He still has the great vision and creativity he had back in Colorado, but he needs to improve his decision making.

Sarich is a warrior, but his body is close to done. Credit to him though, he's made a habit of playing well with injuries. He'll be slow, but he's positionally sound. Don't expect more than a number six defensemen.

Thoughts on Jones and O'Brien? Honestly, not happy about picking up Sherman's mistake in Jones.

Sarich is a solid #4-5 guy who plays with a mean streak. Big hits along the likes of Wilson. Hard shot too.

Better than Zanon and SOB. He'll just give a big presence back there and can clear the front of the net.

Great trade. Gives us another playmaking winger and clears some dead weight off the back end.

Calgary is like our dumping ground for people we don't like anymore...

I like it.

But I think Sarich for SOB is a slight advantage Flames. Really dont rate Sarich. But we got the better deal in Tanguay for Jones

What a great trade! Feaster is an idiot.

So we dumped SOB and picked up Tanguay in 1 trade?!? Thank you Sakic/Roy!

To I'm guessing it's really this:

To Col:
Tanguay
Sarich
O'Reilly Apology

To Cal:
Jones
O'Brien
Forgiveness

Jones was a play killer last year. If he can somehow find that drive he had as a rookie/sophmore he will be okay in Calgary, however, several injuries have really limited his speed. He can't really handle the puck, and he really needs a playmaker to set him up with scoring chances.

SOB can be an okay player in a limited role, he looks bad and makes a lot of dumb decisions with more minutes.

Wow.
More like thanking us for matching and forcing Calgary to forfit the player AND picks.

This has Roy's fingerprints all over it. Didn't Alex live with Roy for a few years.

O'Brien is better than Sarich, but Avs managed to trade a two year contract for a one year contract, which buys flexibility going forward.

I like Tanguay more than Jones, but Jones will bounce back and Tanguay is getting up there. Hopefully we'll get two good years out of him.

He is but pretty much anyone would be an upgrade. SArich is actually a solid depth defender (I thought zanon would be too) so you never know. Alk I know is getting rid of jones and replacing him with tangs is a good move.

Jones looked really bad last season but I think he could bounce back. His 20 goal seasons weren't just a fluke. But you would need to put him with a good playmaking center.

There isn't much to say about O'Brien. I'm sure you saw him play quite a bit when he was with the Canucks. He was solid for the Preds but he has gone back to his Canuck ways now and he was often a liability for us on the ice. He was also the one who played a major role in that whole Vegas story that pissed Giguere off. Most assumed he wouldn't be back.

I remember him living in Roy's basement in his rookie year. That's all I know

There's no way he does that. Calgary doesn't have any players capable of allowing Jones to do that.

I don't see the Flames motivation for this deal at all. They don't shed salary (Tangs and Sarich make a combined $5.5 million, Jones and O'Brien make $6) and we got better players in both instances. Maybe they're hoping they get Jones back to 20-25 goals and are betting on his youth? Wow, feels great to fleece them.

Sarich is another righty D which I'm not sure we need, and he also is another bottom pairing D, which we definitely don't need, but I remember really liking his game when he was in Tampa. Big hitter and big shot. I'm sure he's slowed down by now though, but can he be worse than O'Brien or Zanon?

Tanguay might be a great LW pair for Mackinnon (vet playmaker w/young speedy sniping center) and playing on the 3rd line + the powerplay might be good for him at this stage of his career.

Hope Sakic/Roy don't sign Nieminen to a contract if they bump into him at the draft.
