Gardiner. He's younger and already polished very well defensively.

I honestly think Gardiner is worth more than most people claim him to be. He's good.

Gardiner has a much higher upside. He's shown an ability to be the best player on the ice.

They are both good young guys. Gardiner just has that electric flashiness that you don't see in many defensemen.

Need to see more of Gardiner. MDZ has a larger body of work, but he's been a bit enigmatic.

Del Zotto just doesn't have the skating or vision that Gardner has

and Del Zotto isn't a bad skater or passer

Gardiner is a much better skater. He's a very heady player, great breakout pass, loves to join the rush, has a lot of poise with the puck on his stick and in the offensive zone. I think he has a lot of upside; reminds me of Brian Campbell.

Del Zotto lacks the poise that Gardiner has, at times. He had an up and down season, but it was revealed that he was playing with a sports hernia during the year and throughout the playoffs, which makes a lot of sense from the way he was skating/handling the puck etc. A hernia is no joke, it really is a painful injury. I feel as though he has comparable vision and has better hands, but Gardiner has a better shot. DZ's shot is really the weakpoint of his offensive game. However, I feel he is better defensively (although he's, at best, slightly above the average NHL defender) and much more physical. Perhaps him being better defensively is a result of being more experienced at the pro level. Not to say Gardiner is bad defensively...I don't think he is. I just think DZ is better at the moment.

Overall, I think it's pretty close right now. Can't really decide. I think they're both great players in their own right.

Vision and puck movement aren't Del Zotto's downside. He has a terrible shot ans is a weak skater. He really improved hıs defense, but offensively, İ don't see him improving much

MDZ just turned 23..4th year with the big boys now.Kid is only going to get better imo. When healthy and getting playtime he can be a 40-50pt dman..JG turns 23 in a week.

MDZ- 250gms 24g 86a 110p .44ppg
JG- 87gms 7g 27a 34p .39

I dont think MDZ is even close to maxing out..

But yes a tough call indeed.

DZ is good on the rush and that's it

Gardiner is a DZ-lite

I don't think I'd want either

Del Zotto for me. Probably due to him playing more games in the NHL and being well established as an Offensive Defenseman.

You could argue the exact same thing with Gardiner.

Gardiner is literally 10 days younger than Del Zotto.

I think it's too early to call on this one. Defensemen take a long time to settle in this league. I think both will be in this league for a long time. Tough to tell which one will be the better player over the next 10 years.

Gardiner because when he is 100% healthy he's got great skating speed and he can usually make great passes to get out the defensive zone. So I think he is something special and will only get better.

Looking at the FACTS, it has to be Del Zotto. Sure Gardiner has potential, but he hasn't proved jack yet, i'd go with Del Zotto now...subject to change in the future.

He's closer to Orr level, not quite there yet on Petry level.

And when I say Gardiner is younger I am taking age into account but also that Gardiner has 1 full season under his belt, DZ hasn't improved since his rookie year 4 years ago.
