Apparently "The Phoenix Coyotes of Glendale" didn't sound good to them.
Scott Bordow from the AZRepublic stated last night the name change wouldn't come until the 2014-15 season.

My presumption would be it's too late to change it for the coming season but like everything else that's happened.... that info could be wrong.

The name change to "Arizona Coyotes" has been at Glendale's request going back to Anthony LeBlanc's first attempt during the IceEdge days. Possibly even with Jerry Reinsdorf's attempt, but that was soooooooo long ago.

So glad they are staying. We attend games here (we haven't lived here long) but being poor college students we weren't able to attend many. Now we are in the position to up our attendance this season. Looking forward to it. So ready to put this saga behind and enjoy some hockey! Congrats to all of the Yotes fans!

Flyers fan here. I just wanted to say congratulations to all Coyotes fans. You guys have been soldiers throughout this ordeal. I am excited for the Coyotes to be on a more even playing field with other NHL teams and look forward to seeing what they can do in the future.

After the Jamison deal falling through on financing I guess I am much more conservative on this news. I don't feel like it's all over and done but obviously I am in the minority.

I won't have my nerves calmed for the whole ordeal until there is an actual owner of this team that is not the NHL. Hopefully that comes in the next 30 days, but this is not over yet. At a minimum it looks like the Coyotes will stay for this season, but I am looking at the long game. Let's hope next offseason will be the most exciting as a Coyotes fan in the past 5 years (at that point) with an actual owner.

Thanks, but you trading us Sean Couturier would go a long way to helping close the financial gap ...

GWI? Referendum attempt? Fortress falls through on the funding?

What will take his away from us and pull us back down into hell?
I'll rest easier once the NHL releases next seasons schedule with the Phx/Az Coyotes on it in permanent ink and I'm sitting at the arena in a new #15 jersey (can't use the name, jinx fears) freezing my but off munching on nachos and ice cream. Can't wait to watch the puck hit the back of the visiting teams net and chanting at visiting goalies......
Go Coyotes

I'm in the same boat. COG passed deals with Hulsizer and Jamison and we we know what happened with those. Right now, I'm feeling tempered enthusiasm. If we can get past the next 30 days with no legal challenges, referendums or financial issues then hopefully this will be signed sealed and delivered.

As fans, we need to remember to do our part. We need to actively recruit fans. Take a friend to a game. Explain the game to them. I've done that. It may seem a bit coercive but you will see how taking a friend to a game and showing them why you like the team can be so influential. I've converted at least 5 of my friends into die hards doing just this. A lot of people will love this game if you give them a chance and spend some time teaching the nuances of it like icing, off-sides etc. A lot of people love the game once they understand it better.

I'm with you but there are a couple of differences.

Jamison never had the money...not an issue here.

Hulsizer's deal was dependent on the bonds and when GWI threatened lawsuit that messed the bond market up.

Neither are an issue here.

Do we have a stated budget given the turn in events on ownership? I suspect it may have increased. I just hope the raises to Tippett and Maloney didn't swallow all of it.

I feel like I've just been offered a free cake, apparently delectable but of uncertain origin, along with repeated and unsolicited assurances that "there's totally nothing wrong with it" and "seriously, it's not like a free cake ever killed anybody. Certainly not this free cake."

Glendale OKs lease deal; Coyotes staying in Arizona

Quote:
RSE must finalize its purchase of the team by Aug. 5 to complete the deal, but that is simply a formality since RSE’s financing is already secured and has been approved by the NHL.

With the vote finally out of the way, the franchise can turn its attention to the business and on-ice concerns of the team.

LeBlanc and RSE’s principals have already had preliminary talks with Nealy and Maloney about what they can add in terms of staff, players, expenses and payroll. But LeBlanc said Tuesday that he will sit down with Maloney on Wednesday for further talks and then meet with Nealy.
