I think that if that's what you're looking for, you'd better keep 'em both.

Another interesting twist on this whole thing could be what if the Sabres were willing to take on The Rick's contract?

Miller & Vanek to the Islanders with DiPietro coming back to Buffalo might get Snow to give up an almost untouchable player ala Strome. Or it could get Wang excited about getting out from under that contract.

That might put an interesting twist on things...

I would, but my idea of the price for both is your idea of the price for Miller. So I don't see this going anywhere nice.

I'd give up Grabner if we could sign Raymond, which I think we could. But NYI won't think that way.

Probably because our time frame extends beyond one year.

I had to watch Luongo, Chara, Bertuzzi, etc develop in other organizations while short-term fixes just brought us to mediocrity. Not excited to see that happen again.

For the record, I don't see this happening but for fun.

Strome/Okposo, Nino, 15th pick, for Vanek and Miller?

Can Miller work out an extension as part of a trade if it's after FA opens? Not sure how this stuff works in the new CBA to be perfectly honest.

Needs to be more than that to get both, despite their contract situations.

How hard is it to grasp that the isles have a tight internal budget and won't be adding $14m in Miller+ Vanek?

Philly's beatwriter says they are in talks for Halak. Staple is reporting Snow is trying to trade DiPietro straight up for Luongo. Vancouver's buyout candidate for Snow's buyout candidate. Vancouver saves $3m.

The main problem to that is that the Isles aren't going to pay a goaltender 7 million +, which is likely what Miller would want to forgo UFA. Another part of the reason why I don't see him as having much market value.

If Miller is dealt alone, I think there is a strong chance doesnt waive for the Isles. Not because he may not think they are good enough, but because he'll likely want to see other options (if they exist)

If Vanek goes as well, then I think the chances increase a lot. They are friends and long time teammates and that always makes it easier

But for a deal like that, I think Strome has to be included. Something like Miller and Vanek for Strome, Nino, the 15th and Dipietro

I agree.....Buffalo wouldnt be retaining salary.

Dipietro is owed 8 yrs at $4.5M per or $36M so the buyout would be $24M over 16 years or $1.5M per

Amount owed to Vanek/Miller is $13m so its effectivly eating $11M more.

That report is ridiculous. Why would Vancouver do that? Makes no sense unless NYI adds something significant.

That's fine , but can we try to stay in the land of the realistic?
Snow is not trading top youngsters/1st for 1 yr of Vanek/Miller.

From Panniciao (sp) and Staple's latest reports , neither Philly or the nyi are in the Miller mix.
Maybe the outragious asking price is the reason.

Yes. The Smyth , PAP and Streit extension talks went so smoothly for Snow.

Luongo's buyout would cost $27m.
DiPietro buyout would cost $24m.

Does Vancouver think they have to buyout Loungo.

Do not believe this folks. There are VERY few people in the know in the NHL and even a guy like McKenzie, who's basically the best, didn't know about any Islander trade under Snow until AFTER it happened.

This yokel does not know a thing I promise you.
