1952 Quebec Jr. Final. QAHA Brawl

Tied at two games, a scheduling meeting for the remaining games with the QAHA officiating degenerated into a brawl between Phil Watson and the JAHA vp Frank Horan:

^^^ Thats interesting. Would it be fair to say that Montreal hockey interests looked upon Quebec's teams as Rabble Rousers & Outliers? Wild Men from the North type dealeo? A sort of superiority? While Quebec looked upon Montreal as being somewhat smug, self satisfied? I rather infer as much in reading that article. We all remember the Battle of Quebec, long standing enmities between the two cities finding vent through hockey, and going back generations, a lot earlier than 80's to be certain.

The QC Chronicle and Telegraph is not available for March, 1952 so a balanced look is not possible.

Phil Watson, originally from Montreal was in QC coaching the Rangers sponsored junior Citadelles. Do not know the background of the JAHA vp Frank Horan, nor am I convinced that it matters since it seems that the fight would have happened regardless of who the other team was.

Was infrequent bot not entirely uncommon for Coaches, Managers, even Owners to get into it with each other, even sometimes with fans. The night in 1933 when Bailey got clobbered by Shore in Boston, Conn Smythe decked a fan while making his way to the dressing room who derisively spat at him with a "Baileys faking it" comment. Smythe was charged with assault over that one.

The meetings were private. The schedule was not carved in stone before the start of the series as is the custom.

Both teams had large, NHL arenas to fill, but they were far from being filled.

Sense a strategic marketing move.
