Sekera. Shutdown defenseman?

You're out to lunch.

Holmgren is the only GM in the league who gets flamed for trades that have not happened and rumors that may not even be true.

He has holes to fill...he is talking to everyone and exploring every option...that is his job. People act like he is lining up to give away all of his talent for the hell of it when in reality he probably is doing the exact opposite. Just because he is in talks with someone and players names come up, it doesnt mean he is going to do the trade. And just because a beat writer reports something, it does not mean it is accurate.

Thank god for the Flyers. The offseason would be so boring without them.

A lot of people on here seem to really be overreacting about Homer. Sure he overpays for FAs sometimes but you can't really say anything bad about his trades. His only real mistake has been Bryz, which I bet was more Snyder than Homer anyway.

Not sometimes. Most of the time.

Best way to not overspend on a UFA is not sign any. And tank quietly.

Holmgren overpaid for Briere but Mtl offered more. Right.
Holmgren overpaid for Timonen and Hartnell but that brought the team back on track instantly.

Way to delude your own comprehension skills in a poor effort at a snappy response. You presumably are insightful enough to understand what I meant when I said he can play on your top pairing: he's good enough to. He'd certainly be an improvement to your top 4, unlike what the comment I was responding to implied by saying he's a #6 defenseman. Calling him a "#4" is amusing, as if you're saying he's just on the border of being a top 4 guy.

While I hope my retarded statement didn't drool on you, you shouldn't judge it on its afflictions. Sekera has offensive skill and if released to use it, there is "upside" there. Replace the word "upside" with whatever makes you feel at ease inside.

But looking back I would still make those moves again. All three are/were huge parts of the teams successes since being brought in.

Anyway, I'm talking about the way some are acting like he's the worst GM of all time who's ruining the franchise.

Agree.
And still more FAs we did not mention. Most are good moves i would say. 50/50 would make me happy.

I don't think it's safe to overlook the mistakes Holmgren has made recently, but at the same time the team itself hasn't been completely ruined. Amnesty buyouts are probably the only reason for that, so we're lucky. Probably one of the highest potential forward cores in the league, although potential only counts for so much. I think with the removal or Bryzgalov and Briere the team is trending upwards although my opinion will likely be changed over the next few weeks. The Flyers went from top of the league to close rock bottom, so I sure hope they trend upwards. TBH, this team reminds me a lot of the Flyers back in -07. I expect a big rebound year, but if I'm wrong and they sputter again you can guarantee heads will role in the staff. At the least the Flyers aren't afraid to make changes.

Quoted for truth.

The tweet is THE MOST vague Tweet of all time, and Holmgren is called a moron.

Unbelievable.

Ok guy, you're uneducated on my level of education on anything. He's not top 4 on most NHL teams. My opinion. Don't like him as a player and don't believe he makes our defense better. My opinion makes me uneducated on the subject though. I feel like I'm watching Fox News.

It's not unreasonable to think you have very little knowledge of Sekera's game if you think that he's not a top 4 defenseman and wouldn't make the Flyers' defense better.

A GM busy with trade talks is nothing but a good thing. Jets fans are so desparate for any shred of information we've filled the void with the twitter hashtag #whatdidchevydotoday. Some examples:

Successfully completed the milk jug challenge. #whatdidchevydotoday

Saw the whole Flyers brass fine dining for many hours tonight. Chris Pronger included. Guess they were discussing their options.

He didn't overpay, or if he did, it wasn't by much. Briere was coming off a 90+ point season when signed and has been great until recently. The other two big FA signings that season fell off the face of the earth, but Homer got the right guy of the three. Timonen has been worth every penny of the first contract and Hartnell was only making a little over 4 million and only 2 of those season's Hartnell underperformed. Those four other seasons goal totals: 24, 30, 37, 24.

Hartnell is perhaps overpaid now, but nothing quoted makes any sense (unless you were being sarcastic) and virtually every Flyers fan would pull the trigger on those deals again. There was very recently a thread about Briere and overwhelmingly people would have made that signing.
