Thank You Alfie

Hey all,

Posted this in a different thread and a lot of people seemed to like the idea, so I thought I'd make a separate thread on it where we can discuss it.

We've had a tonne of Alfie chants over the years to cheer him on. The most popular being "Alfie! Alfie! Alfie!" and the countdown. Some have tried to start other chants, such as "One More Year! One More Year!".

How about we give Alfie a chant to thank him for everything he's done for the team. Think of this: the 2013-14 Home Opener could be his last home opener ever. We need to show him how much we love him and appreciate him giving it his all before he's done playing. The last two off-seasons he's considered retirement, but opted on coming back. We might not get that same luxury next off-season.

What has Alfie done? He's donned the C with pride and passion longer than any current captain. He's stayed 100% loyal to the team, even when he could have bolted. He played through all the trade speculation and rose the team to the top of the East. He took a paycut and gave his own money to the team so we could get some trade deadline acquisitions. He helps out the community a lot, winning an NHL Award for it last year and has his face up outside of the Royal Ottawa. He's shown up big in big games, such as Game 7 against the Rangers (2012), Game 3 against the Penguins (2013), Game 5 against Buffalo (2007), Game 5 against Anaheim (2007). He's beloved in Ottawa. He played out his last contract for $1 million, when he could have retired, taken the money and he definitely deserved more.

So, for all of this, this is what I propose. A "Thank You Al-fie!" chant. To the same tune as "Let's go Bru-ins!" would be. I think he deserves it and it would be an awesome chant just to show him we really appreciate him giving it one more go and treating us to more great games.

The home opener isn't for a while. I decided to make this now in case anyone had any different ideas or anything. We have about three months to figure this out. What do you all think?

I think Alfie knows the fans love him, but I'm all for pouring it on.

I would lose all respect for any of the teams that draft alfredsson's kids, they belong to us.

I like the idea.

This should be the year of Alfie.

I don't think we would have made the playoffs if Alfie had retired this season

I've actually heard rumours that Alfie could possibly sign a 2 year deal cause Murray thinks by next year(2015) we should be top-end contenders. It would be the greatest ****ing news ever, tbh.

Please, Alfie, we love you so.

There's no reason we can't be top-end contenders now, depending on what Murray does in the next few days. If he brings in some talent then I think it's a sign we're "all-in" for Alfie this year. If not, well....maybe Alfie will sign a 2-year. Who knows.

I might warm up to it as we get closer to it, but right now I agree.

If he came out and said that he's gonna test free agency, I wouldn't be as upset. But to do it all behind everyone's backs is a dick move.

would you rather we make the playoffs and he leaves at the deadline? He wasn't going to leave at the deadline. He knows damn well that we're 4-5 years away from winning a cup. So why not sign with a team in the offseason for a year, get used to the players, system, build chemistry at the beginning of the season.

Murray isn't gonna sacrifice Noeson, Pumpel, Zbad, Pageau.....etc just to try and win a cup now. While we're a mediocre team still in the rebuilding process. Alfredsson found that out and decided to sign for a year with a team that went to GAME 7 in overtime with the Stanley cup champions. A legit contender.

he owes us nothing... so grow up .. it's not about you or the fans... he already gave 17 years for us. I think we're allowed to spare him 1 year at the end of his career.

1 month ago, he told ALL Sens fans that he couldn't imagine going somewhere else to win a Cup.

And here we are.

At chanting his name at 11:11 as a tribute for all he did in Ottawa. Stay classy my friends.
