I remember actually he backed down from Laraque.
never fights other fighters huh??
in 2003:
how about Steven Peat 2 times, Tie Domi, Andrie Nazarov, Eric Cairns, Darren McCarthy, Jim McKenzie, Darren Langdon, Dale Puriton to name a few. next time you should look these things up when you don't know what your talking about.

now don't be so mad because he beat your boy Stevens up.

Nazarov shouldn't be in this list in my opinion. I watched every fight Andrei Nazarov had when he was with the Boston Bruins and I honestly don't remember him ever once coming out victorious. Only thing he was good for was tying up the opponent before falling down or getting slammed down by his opponent. His fights fall under one of two categories: either the standard wrestling match non-fight or him getting his head punched in variety.

Where is Worrel and Laraque? They are the ones he will back down from. there are other and I will post them tomorow. The guy is a bully.

He basicly jumped Stevens, and Stevens won't miss next time.

Brashear has fought both Worrel and Laraque. And while Nazarov still sucks, he has improved since the Bruins.

if your going to run at a fighter, you have to know he's going to jump on ya and he did. don't worry, Stevens is a big boy, he can take.

Did you watch it or are you going by what has been said? Steven's tried to hit Brashear with a big hit and Donald got away from most of it. That would piss me up if a guy was head hunting in the preseason too. So he went and beat him up. Quite frankly, I wish a lot more people did that to Scott Stevens and a lot more people HATE him than Brashear. I can tell you that I wouldn't mind seeing Scott's career ended by a huge hit where he didn't get up.

BY RICH CHERE
Star-Ledger Staff

PHILADELPHIA -- As he always does, Devils captain Scott Stevens took care of business.

Although the Devils fell to the Flyers, 5-4, in overtime last night in a preseason game at the Wachovia Center, it was a second period hit from Stevens against Philadelphia enforcer Donald Brashear that will remain in the minds of both teams.

Brashear, who angered the Devils Tuesday night in Trenton by punching Grant Marshall while the right winger was lying on the ice, was dropped by an open-ice hit from Stevens as he skated to the top of the slot at 5:30 of the second. Brashear challenged Stevens to a fight and the Devils' veteran defenseman, who long ago proved that he was one of the game's fiercest players, held his own.

"I had a chance to hit him and he didn't like it," Stevens said of Brashear. "He took exception and I responded. I'll be there. That's fine."

Brashear, who was knocked down by Stevens' shoulder, received an instigating penalty and a 10-minute misconduct in addition to the fighting major. Stevens got five for fighting.

"They're all clean hits with him. If a guy comes across, he's going to hit him," Brashear said. "That's what it's all about. I don't care. I can take (the hits), but he's going to pay the price, that's all."

The Devils and Flyers meet again tonight at Continental Airlines Arena, their fourth and final meeting of the preseason. It is not known whether Brashear will make the trip or whether Stevens will dress for the Devils.

Coach Pat Burns said he knew Stevens and Brashear were destined to come to blows.

"They'd been jostling most of the night," Burns said. "I knew something was going to happen. Anybody who comes into the zone with their head down like that should know Scotty's going to greet you."

The Flyers blew a 3-0 lead before winning on Jeremy Roenick's power-play goal after 2:29 of overtime, but Stevens and the Devils sent a message that they will not tolerate Brashear's abuse all season.

"I though that was George Foreman," defenseman Brian Rafalski said of Stevens, his defense partner. "That was the first one since he fought Rick Tocchet here (in 2000-01). That was a good scrap, too."

If familiarity breeds contempt, the Devils and Flyers are sure to loath each other once the regular season begins.

Notes:

Adrian Foster scored the Devils' first goal. Patrik Elias, Marshall and Mike Rupp also scored for the Devils. ... Corey Schwab started the game in goal and allowed three goals on 17 shots before being replaced by Scott Clemmensen at 9:00 of the second period. Clemmensen stopped 13 of 15 shots.

Brashear spent most of the second period in the penalty box. After his hit on the much-smaller Brian Gionta, Brashear was sent off for mixing it up with Scott Niedermayer. Later, Brashear tripped Patrik Elias and then drew a penalty for charging Aleksander Suglobov.

Burns used the following line combinations: Elias-Scott Gomez-Marshall, Brian Gionta-Rupp-Aleksander Suglobov, Jay Pandolfo-John Madden-Joe Hulbig, Tuomas Pihlman-Foster-Ilkka Pikkarainen. ... Defense pairings were Stevens-Rafalski, Colin White-Scott Niedermayer and Paul Martin-David Hale"

This is an attitude that I find more and more bothersome in the league. If it was a clean hit, why the need for retribution? Suck it up like a man. This isn't just Brashear, it seems like every goon in the leaqgue feels the need to start a fight with an opposing player simply for laying on a good, clean, hard hit.

Wow, true class from another Philly fan. I'm hoping you wrote that in the spur of the moment cause you were upset that the Flyers had to wait until overtime to beat the River Rats last night... Honestly, how could you wish that on another human being? I'm sure that there are some Philly fans that aren't idiot's but it's a shame that the morons are always the one's with the biggest mouths and are always remembered.

Ya know, I agree. If you get nailed *CLEANLY* than swollow your pride and keep your head up next time. Hockey isn't chess, you sometimes get hit, no matter how good you are.

I'm sorry, but I find the guy to be disgusting. It's one thing to hit hard, it's another thing to hit with a clear intent to injure, which he does. I can't have any respect for a guy that says that he knew Lindros was the only one who could beat them, so he wanted to take him out. I put Stevens in the same boat as Marchment, they both do things with an intent to injure and I don't mind when they get a taste of their own medicine.

I'm sure many Devils fans were not upset when Stevens injured Lindros and for all intensive purposes, ended his career. Maybe I'm wrong though, maybe you guys were upset at Stevens. Again, someone who does things with an intent to injure, deserves a taste of his own medicine, just my opinion though. He's a head hunter, plain and simple, and I don't respect that.

And don't you think it's a little ironic that you guys are upset at Brashear for going after Stevens, when Scott was obviously trying to knock him out cold in a preseason game?

And don't you think it's a little hypocritical of you to write that you want Steven's career ended after you condemn him for "all intensive [sic] purposes, [ending] Lindros' career"?

He said it in retaliation because there are 10 of you attacking Brashear for beating up too many of your players..

You guys don't think it's sad that you are discussing who to trade for so the guy can beat up brashear?

And it's still preseason!!!!

IMO Brashear deserves to get the snot beat of him. Sinse when do enforcers keep punching a player after hes hit the ice. I do not wish a career ending injury on him or anything like that. (only a few players on the leafs I wish that on)
