Berner didn't unseat an elite goalie. Schnieds did.

I know it's not that simple, but buying out Luongo, starting Schneider, then adding a back-up or another starter isn't a viable option? I don't get it.

I don't believe it, Dreger has burnt his bridges in Vancouver, Gillis has said Luongo being back is very unlikely and the fact Dreger is saying the Oilers makes it seem like major bs, why would the Canucks trade Schneider to the Oilers and give them that stud goalie that will hurt us down the road, Dreger is full of bs here

So stupid to compare these GMs when you look at their records.
True, Gillis certainly is enjoying the success setup by Burke.

I think you're looking at the situation all wrong.

Quick never failed in the playoffs. Luongo did. That says nothing about Schneider vs Bernier.

Gillis looks terrible here. Egg on face.

Really going to hurt as a Canucks fan if we stick withL Luongo after this complete mess.

Sure, and until Nonis took over and started ridding the glaring errors of LACK, that core achieved nothing. That's the thing...you need more than just a core. The coaching change, the GM change, the burying of players, buyouts, salary retention deals, etc propelled Toronto back into the playoffs this year. That's largely on Nonis, not Burke. And it still isn't close to what Gillis took and molded after the fact in Vancouver.

Couturier; much like the "big 4", would be off the board.

Few things to note. For those who only have watched CS during this playoffs it is important to note that he did have a groin injury at that time. He had not played in two weeks and came back early because he thought he was good enough but it was clear he wasn't. Schneider has been better than Luongo (not by a lot) for 2 years now.

Ownership is pushing hard for no buyouts, so it's really forcing this situation on Gillis.

Pick and a prospect, or a package of similar value to what Varlamov got is what I am looking for.

Nightmare situation for Canucks fans. Gillis should be fired. Textbook case of terrible asset management.

Schnieds unseated him over the regular season. Says everything about him. They waited for Lou to have some bad games before they switched him out obviously.

Bernier wasn't good enough to play in the place of a struggling Quick. Says a lot about Bernier

It's not like he signed a lifetime contract and undying loyalty. He signed a short term deal that took him to UFA status. Any team trading for him has him for two years after that he's fair game to anyone. That's what you are trading for and why a 1st round pick and a prospect is the rumoured asking price, about what Bernier got.

Not a nightmare at all. I'd prefer to keep Loungo but of not, I'm happy with Schneider.

It's so revisionist to think Burke built the foundation. The Sedins, Kesler, Burrows, Edler, Bieksa and Schneider were not developed to their ceiling under Burke or Nonis. Is it normal for it to take 8 years to peak in the case of the Sedins?

Sure Burke and Nonis drafted most of our core. The fact remains that they did nothing with them and in some cases stunted their development. I'm not going to applaud them for that.

5 Division Titles. It's a bottom line business isn't it? Why should Gillis be fire after the 5 most successful years in Canucks history?

You're really going to count division titles when the Canucks played in the WORST division?

Let's see if they can win the division next year.

Canucks should be ashamed of themselves if they couldn't win division titles in the same division as a tanking Oiler, Avalanche team, a dysfunctional Flames team and Minnesota.
