MTL-Blockbuster

Pittsburgh receives:

Carey Price
Raphael Diaz

Montreal receives:

MAF
Brooks Orpik
2nd pick 2014

Montreal gets a rugged D that they have a need for and take on MAF with 2 years left of his contract.

Pitt obtains a RHD that is strong on the PP, which can give them options in case they have to trade Letang. If not they now have two offensive RHD. They take on Price's contract that has 5 years left but take the chance on Price's huge upside that simply has not been developed in Montreal's pressure cooker.

So your saying MTL will give up a great goalie and decent dman for an aging dman and a struggling goalie?

Heavens.

But guys... We get a 2nd round pick.

Done. I'll have buyers remorse AFTER we draft with that 2nd and I don't like it.

MAF does not perform in the playoffs either but unless you are thinking that this current edition of the Habs is a Cup contender...Habs simply have to start from scratch and draft a goalie this year and need a 2-3 year buffer in the mean time. What they don't need is a laughable Luongo situation, which is exactly what they will get if Price stinks again in the playoffs next year. He just can't do it in MTL and might work out elsewhere. This is a win-win for both clubs.

As for Orpik, we have much more a need for him than Diaz at this point, as we have many prospects of Diaz's type and few of Orpik's. Our young rugged D's need another 1-2 years.

I would love to see MAF traded to Montreal. Just thinking about the monumental collapse under the pressure of playing for the Habs and then the fans trying to run him out of the city, it has me in stitches. And that's just the first month of the season.

MAF has negative value, do you seriously think Price's value is Orpik and a 2nd (or less with MAF)? I think your dislike/value for Price is way off from what the rest of the league feels, GMs not HF posters.

Habs fans,
if you think YOU have issues with Price, take a walk on the wide side and acquire Fleury for a while. It'll surely be quite a trip!

Come on, this is dumb. Fleury sucks like no other.

If you are right then we will get a very good return for Price. I don't hate Price, not as a goalie, notvas a person, and think he is a class act. However, what people on boards often conveniently forget about are contracts. Price's contract is one of a future hall of fame level, while he is a good mid-range goalie that can't perform consistently from game to game in the playoffs (a la Luongo)...Price's value with this contract is no better than MAF who only has two years left. Look what contracts do: nobody would take Lecavalier with his albatross contract, but most of us would line up to bid for him for 4-5M per for a 3-4 year range.

Let me repeat, Price's value with this contract is close to MAF. This is a decent deal (and risk) for both teams. There are even fans on another post who would not trade Varlamov for Price straight up...

But again, if there is a sucker GM out there who needs to make a splash and thinks that Price will develop into a Hall of Famer, great for us...

This is a terrible trade. Price may have struggled but he has never exactly had a great defense playing in front of him. He's proven he can win. IMHO, he needs a veteran goalie as a back up which he has never had and a better built defense in front of him. Give him that and you'll see how good he can be.

As a Pens fan, I would say absolutely not. If we're trading Fleury, we don't want another headcase with a longer, worse contract. Stupid, stupid stupid.

I prefer Price+Diaz+Gorges+1st choice vs Fleury+Letang

You are wrong as he hates being pressured by another goalie. This is why the Habs traded Halak and anything decent in their farm club to clean house for him, and found Budaj that will never be a threat.

Agreed. Problem is that Shero is a good GM...
