Obviously the Flyers would add, but I'm just trying to make sense out of what we've been told. It's not as if you guys would lack for star power any after dealing Eberle. I can't see Gagner being a fit with our center depth, but then again we're apparently after lecavalier...

Eberle would mean Laughton being in the package with Coburn.

Coburn/Read/Talbot for Eberle?

Read can play some RW right?

That might be in the ball park, though I'd think if the Oilers decide to trade Eberle they can get a lot more than that from the right team.

He can play any forward position, really. Better suited at wing IMO. It's a solid package for sure, but your right that other teams may have better.

I think it's clear that the problem is that Coburn is worth more than MPS, but less than the next best option, Eberle. The Flyers don't want MPS+, and the Oilers don't want to trade Eberle. Maybe we could just trade Meszaros for MPS... Not likely, given Mez's injury history and single year remaining on his deal. MPS would be a great 3rd line LW with Couturier, though.

Don't think we'd trade Eberle tbh. The fans are in love with him, he grew up an Oilers fan, and he just happens to be best friends with the guy who's going to be the face of franchise for the next 15 years.

That's the problem. The Oilers only have either gold or junk. Coburn is somewhere in the middle of that.

It'll be tough for MacTavish to make trades.

If I am the Flyers I would be willing to work with a deal around MPS+ for Coburn. The + would have to include Martin Marincin or Oscar Klefbom. Klefbom would probably be a deal breaker, though. It would actually kind of defeat the purpose of trading for a defenseman if the Oilers would be giving away their best defensive prospect in the deal too haha. I bet Marincin could be had, though. He doesn't really bring anything that Schultz, Klefbom, and Musil can't provide.

Klefbom is worth more than MPS at this point.

Paajarvi and two 2nds seemed liked a decent deal. Wonder what happen ended.

If the Oilers are dealing Eberle to the Flyers, Couturier or Schenn and then the Flyers add some.
No combination of Coburn/Read/Talbot gets them in the ballpark for Eberle.

Yeah the Oilers are not trading Eberle for a package headed by Coburn. Not even close. Nice try by Holmgren though.

So you think Eberle for Couturier or Schenn is fair? You're a funny guy!

I am pretty sure that someone just made the beetle thing up. I don't think that any reputable media type ever mentioned him...

The plus wouldn't be as big as you're making it out to be, and what need do the Oilers have for Schenn or Couturier?

He was never name dropped, but he's the guy who makes the most sense when taking Dreger's tweet into account. Of course that could be ********, but it's fun to discuss regardless.

Oilers are incredibly thin at C.

Holmgren and MacT met a dozen times. Couldn't get it done. Could still happen.

The best is Holmgren pretending they were never even close to a deal.

Did he think we didn't him and MacT chasing each other around like school girls about 10 times over an hour?

Maybe he thought he was invisible...

Holmgren goes above and beyond keeping quiet in order to preserve his assets. None of us put much stock into his words

Well, it's a bit odd, but I do like it more than other GMs we have dealt with.

One thing about the Oilers is we HATE when players in deals get leaked, and it happens more often that we like.

That being said, I think admitting a deal was discussed is ok

I'd happily pursue Grossman if it'll cost less.,
