Next year is the last year for the compliance buy outs right? At least that's what I remember hearing. If so, Richards is as good as gone. No way we keep him for the remainder of his contract with him declining at age 34-35. He'd still have what, 6 more years?

No interest in Galiardi. He's a 3rd/4th line tweener who is more of a 4th liner, doesn't play on the PK or PP very much. Isn't very physical. Sound like anyone? Taylor Pyatt?

Yes, next summer will be the last compliance buyout window, and Richards will have 6 years left on his contract, only 3 of which he likely plans to play.

Nothing in here about Clowe's upper-body troubles, but that's not surprising given that they are trying to unload him.
While this is the case, I would much rather sign Clowe for 3-4 years than having Richards here one more season.

McD-Girardi
Staal-Del Zotto (Inverted again)
Moore-Stralman
Falk

But we ran 8 blueliners last year, and I suspect considering the lack of NHL ready defensemen in Hartford they'd want a bigger safety net.
Definitely Eminger but I am not sure he is brought back. He liked playing under Torts because Torts trusted him. There was a relationship there. I expect him to go elsewhere.

I'm still going to advocate adding a scoring forward, but with Richards here that's almost impossible.
The beginning of the season, as it stands right now, is going to be VERY ugly with Callahan and Hagelin out.

Thinking about it, I, for one, am content with standing pat and adding a minor acquisition via UFA.

No Edler, no Ryan, no Skinner, no big names. Keep the roster as it is, continue to develop our young, core players and add to them with up and comers like Lindberg, Fast, Miller, Kreider, Thomas, McIlrath, Nieves, MSZ, Hrivik.

They need to address their bottom-6, mainly their 4th line LW. The team needs to play with an edge. Find someone who can play that way.

Hopefully Lindberg can make the team and push Boyle to LW, so they won't need to overpay a UFA.

Kreider-Stepan-Nash
Hagelin-Richards-Callahan
Zuccarello-Brassard-Thomas/Miller
Boyle-Lindberg-Dorsett

Staal-Del Zotto
McDonagh-Girardi
Moore-Stralman

Fine going into next season with that roster.

If MZA is on this team he better be playing in a top 6 role. He isnt good defensively and doesnt play physically. He should not be used on the 3rd line.

I thought it was no guarantee that Hagelin or Callahan would miss any of the season? When was their surgery?

Lindberg should either get big minutes in Hartford or be the 3c. Let him continue to develop his offense.

Am I the only one who doesn't understand why we are locking up Zuccarello to a multi year deal and guaranteeing him a prominent role? Not extremely confident with him in a top 6 role.

Don't remember when it was but they reported that both could miss a few weeks into the season.

Because the guy looked great in his time at the end of last year and is one of the few Ranger players who thrives with the puck on his stick. He makes plays.

Blackhawks boss Rocky Wirtz. These quotes were printed last Monday.

Quote:
While enjoying his team’s run to the Stanley Cup Final, Chicago Blackhawks owner and chairman Rocky Wirtz spoke optimistically of the league’s overall business last week — to the tune of an additional $1 billion coming to the NHL.

“We’re going to add another billion dollars in gross revenue in the very near future,” Wirtz said while with his team in Boston. “The CBA is long-term [10 years, with opt-outs for the league and players after eight], and now the focus is on growth. I’m extremely happy about the future of the NHL.”

Wirtz isn’t alone in having that billion-dollar vision in this first year under the new collective-bargaining agreement. According to sources at the team and league levels, NHL executives informed the league’s audit and finance committee at a meeting on June 10 that the league projects bringing in an additional $1 billion of cumulative revenue over the next three seasons.
http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/J...-notebook.aspx

This is what Stan Bowman said

Quote:
Why is the salary cap going down next year?

It was negotiated in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. We had a shortened season, so the revenues were less than you would have in a regular season. If you went by the letter of the law, because the revenues were down, the cap would be well below what it will be, which is $64.3 million. With a full season next year, it could go to $75 million. The cap this year was $70.2 million, based on the previous season.

Then you have Walsh tweets. He is getting his info from the NHL executives. Look at what Wirtz and Jacobs said. Jacobs is the ultimate hardliner and he is discussing a substantial increase. Bowman said. Revenue was $3.3B in 11-12. $3.28B exactly. Add $1B.

Am I the only one who wonders what Zucc has to do, besides grow 5 inches and gain 30 pounds of muscle, to get respect from some people?

The kid works hard, he's offensively creative, and he was our 2nd leading scorer in the playoffs. No one is guaranteeing him anything. A one-way contract doesn't guarantee a spot in the lineup. It doesn't guarantee that he won't be traded. He's an asset. He has value, both to our team and as a trade chip. And he's proven that he can play in this league, whether you wish to acknowledge that or not.

Can Thomas/Miller fill the 3rd line LW spot?

Great is a very strong word.

Zuccarello is one of this team's top 6 forwards. Thats a fact right now. Its not necessarily a great thing for the team.

I am not saying he does not belong in the league. What I am saying is I don't see him as a great fit on our team. Does a team have a championship core when Zuccarello is being relied on to be one of your top options? I love Stepan. I really like Nash. Other then that what do we have in our top 6? Brassard performed real well but he is no guarantee to repeat. Richards seems to be on the downside of his career and will likely be gone after this year. I will get killed for this but in my opinion Callahan and Hagelin are both best suited on the 3rd line. Kreider has yet to prove he belongs. I am going to assume Hagelin, Callahan, Nash, Stepan, and Richards will be in the top 6. Now if Kreider lives up to his potential is MZA suited for a 3rd line role?

I see MZA as a good fit on the second line RW on a high scoring team. I see him fitting in on a line where he can set up a Gaborik or Hossa type player. Not playing LW on a line with Richards and Cally or Brassard and JT Miller. Really didnt mean to come off as not liking MZA.

Since Sather has a tendancy to bring in players Rangers fans hate Holik, Brashear, Gomez etc..

i wont be shocked if Dan Carcillo ends up a Ranger.. just a feeling with the Hawks getting rid of salary..

maybe something along the lines of Carcillo to NYR for Bourque and a mid round pick

Comparatively to most of the team, he was great with the puck.
