imo that's an overpayment by the hawks.

how about Bolland + 1st + McNeill?

Don't want to part with Leddy. Happy to give Bolland, rights to Berg, rights to pretty much any other FA leaving, or some middling prospects + 30th to get Monahan.

But not Leddy

This sucks for Hawks

No reason to give up McNeill (18th overall in 2011) + Leddy + 1st just to move up to #7 and draft a kid who will not be sure thing

This is the first offer for the 7th pick that I have seen where I would take it and I have seen ALOT. So probably an overpayment from the hawks.

I really liked Mark McNeill in his draft year but his level of play has stagnated since.
Not interested in him as the centre piece of a deal that includes one year of an overpaid Bolland.

Done! Nice doing business with you Chicago. (Backs away slowly, turns around,...runs like a bat outta hell...helicopter swoops in...jumps and grab skids...looks back and waves and flys off into the sunset.)

Monahan fills 2C perfectly and at a decent price until cap goes way up, we have another star, after ELC, Hossa to 3rd line RW, TT on 2nd.

I wouldn't do that deal for Monohan, but if Elias Lindholm was available, I would do Leddy + Pirri + 2nd round pick '14 for that pick.

And since it is apparent overpayment, are you guys comfortable with their 2nd coming back?

Perfectly? You think he walks straight on the the cup winning team as 2C?

Big big big Monahan fan, don't get me wrong, he's one of the few guys I'd be ok moving up for but c'mon man.

I don't want to trade Nick Leddy unless it's in a deal to get Seth Jones. Aka, I don't want to trade Nick Leddy.

the overpayment is b/c leddy is in there - you fix that by taking him out of the deal and putting someone else in.

i wouldn't mind the hawks drafting monahan if they traded up - although i doubt he's nhl ready at this point. tbh, my dream is they'd use the pick for nichuskin, but in my heart i know they'd never use a pick that high on a russian player.

Nichushkin s the last player I'd draft if Chicago got a pick that high. One-dimensional and selfish. That's what I saw at the WJC.

And when I saw one-dimensional, I'm not saying he's only pure offense.. I'm saying his only move is to drive wide with speed, and try to get to the net. That's not going to work out in the NHL. It barely worked out in the WJC.

no, i don't agree with you. i thought he looked good and i'd take him on the hawks any time.

from what i can tell, the russian team is routinely turning into a nightmare of dumb coaches who, rather than, you know...coaching, just tell the players to go out there and try to win.

i'd be more willing to criticize Nichushkin for 'selfish' or 'one dimensional' play if he were playing against the grain of a well coached team.

in fact, i thought there were times where Nichushkin looked like the only guy who decided to show up (at a WJC being held in Russia). You are right that he did the drive wide/net approach - but it looked like a player who was doing what he could w/ his own abilities to help the team win.

I like him and have confidence in him. I think w/ the right team he will do well in the NHL.

If Monahan is there, Oilers are drafting him unless you're giving us Toews.

It's not like Team Russia's coach is the one developing his game. He played the same way in the KHL etc.

no, Nichushkin has not been a player who, for those who have seen him play, can seriously be described as "selfish" and "one dimensional" - those are phrases typically tossed about for Russian players. To the extent he trends towards offense while not loving defense it is typical of a 17/18 year old player. Most high end/high skilled forwards in the draft show exactly the same tendencies as Nichushkin.

there is of course the issue that if he doesn't make the NHL right away he can return to the KHL (which is superior to the CHL or AHL)...so that may affect teams. But it irritates me that people behave like Nichushkin is selfish or might have character issues when his play doesn't indicate that.

there are a number of high end canadian forwards (projected to be taken early in the draft) who are even worse defensively than Nichushkin - and far less skilled - but of course their deficiencies are to be cured w/ an extra year of so of play in the CHL. I get there are have been problems w/ Russian players in the past - but it bothers me when ppl zero in on every deficiency of a Russian player when really the same issues are replicated over many players in the draft.
