Because we have too much $$$ tied up in our D and we need scoring.

Edler, Hamhuis, Bieksa, Garrison, Ballard all make 4-5 mill.

Edler, other than Ballard, is the only one who doesn't have a NTC (for now). Ballard won't fetch much, therefore it makes sense to move Edler.

Still probably wouldn't do it. Yes that pick is nice and I like Musil, but I think we'd need at least 1 tangible asset to move Edler. Like SergiShirokov mentioned think about what the Pens got for Staal .

Something around Gagner + 7th would be starting point.

This past season he was very average, made a lot of boneheaded plays that made you wonder. Not sure I would go all in on him. Still like his upside a lot, but I'm just saying buyer beware

Value wise not bad, but Gagner wanting 5 mill probably doesn't fit Vancouver cap for his role.

sorry Canucks fans, I am sure this has been asked...with the team needing to free up some money, has the team decided not to use their compliance buyouts? for ballard and booth for example?

Can happen after player signs long contract, get a little to comfortable, but if they are competitive they usually come back to form

Oil fans, don't bother lol. Would you trade one of the big 4-5 to Vancouver?

Edler will likely go to Philly for Coburn + Couts, or Coburn + B.Schenn if Van adds a little.

Laughton is ready to step up.

haven't heard anything. Ballard might get back on the team with the different coach. If Booth is healthy then he will play.

Edler for Couturier AND Coburn? I dont even think Philly would move Couturier straight up for Edler to be honest...they hold him in high regards and so they should

I think Gillis is trying to get an asset in return for Ballard, if he can't I think he'll be bought out. But if Edler gets moved, I could see MG keeping Ballard as a "Reclamation Project" So to speak with a new coach. Booth though is injured thus making him ineligible for buyout.

cheers...I liked Ballard on Phoenix and Florida, he has talent. Booth, to be honest, has never impressed me, but hopefully for Vancouver, he shuts me up!

A decision hasn't been made on Ballard yet. (I imagine they are looking to see if they can trade him, if not a buyout would probably happen unless someone is traded)

Can't buyout Booth as he is injured, and I don't think they would either way.

I don't think that is necessarily true. Mcbain is a good young defenceman who has put up 30 points in a year before. Good size and skill. Value between the 2 proposals is close, but Oilers would need to pay more due the fact they play in same division.

Fair enough but that opens another hole that would not be worth it for Oilers.

Here's the thing. Ballard (to me) has never looked bad on the ice. There was no real reason that I saw that he should have been benched. But Vigneault didn't like him for whatever reason so he never played.

Booth on the other hand, did not gel well with Kesler as they are both shooters so the line didn't work well. Booth has limited vision and playmaking skills as his bread and butter is driving to the net from the outside. His play style doesn't work well with the team's strategies unfortunately.
