That's why we draft D.

Oh yeah, our Goalie also has to be the God, other wise we have no chance winning.
Offensemen and deforwards, that's pretty good.

A stud forward would have been great but the three safe options were off the board when we picked. So we "settled" for the #1 ranked NA skater, a Team USA captain at the U18 tourney, and a the clear BPA. If he is in fact NHL ready this fall, we're stacked on the blue line for the next several years. If it takes a season, no huge deal.

Yeah there a few examples but those are rare. Karlsson, Weber or Suter didn't. More often than not, those guys aren't ready for the NHL. Just really bad to expect top 4 minutes from a position that traditionally needs more time to develop.

The right pick was trading. Rumor has it was we were offered 3 first round picks for that pick. That is alot for an organization that is struggling for depth.

Not to mention, Poile stated before the draft that he was their number one guy all along. That is disappointing.

Poile said he thought Jones was the best player in the draft not necessarily our preferred choice. im bettung Barkov was #1 on our list but with he and Drouin both gone you cant blame him for going ahead and taking jones.

i wouldnt have been upset if he had gambled on nich or traded down but blaming poile for not getting a plyer that was already gone is about like blaming him for not getting lecavalier instead of legwand

Quality over quantity. Jones was rated 1 or 2 all year we wouldn't have gotten a better rated player anywhere else in the draft. We can always grab more depth, this was our chance at one of the top rate prospects in the world.

Karlson, Weber, and Suter were not top picks. It's not unreasonable to expect a top pick to be able to step in immediately. That's why they are top picks. Jones is regarded as the most NHL ready prospect in the draft.

Doughty, Bogosian, Hedman, and Larson were all recent top picks and immediately made their clubs' squad after being drafted.

I'm not sure I'd do a quantity for quality trade. If I were to trade the #4, it would have been for some current talent.

This.

I think most people would have preferred MacKinnon/Barkov out of the "big 4" with some split between Drouin/Jones but most honest people will say after those 4, the dropoff in talent was pretty noticeable. Jones has been the consensus 1 or 2 for almost a full year, and in any other year, we'd be laughed off of a forum for even suggesting we could get someone of his talent. You don't pass on a Jones just to pick up a Lindholm or Monohan. We have money. We have assets. We have developmental playmakers who could still give us an edge. Whether we spend correctly, move our extra assets correctly, and further develop the offensive talent we do have under contract is another issue - but it's one completely separate from drafting a player like Seth Jones when he's right there for you to pick at 4 versus the next tier of guys

Wow, 6'5" 250 lbs bruiser. That's huge for an 18 year old. His father was a pro soccer player.

When 92 goals wins the Presidents trophy in 3 years, fans of other teams better not be complaining that the Preds ruined hockey.....

Over/under that Poile pants were wet announcing the Jones pick. Poile looked like he had just committed armed robbery.

“Big is an understatement,” said one scout. “He came into the combine at 250 pounds and at 6-foot-5, I don’t know if he’s done growing. He’s going to be interesting. He may be one of the most naturally physical players in the draft.”
I don't mind defensemen for depth now. I just wanted a franchise forward with the first pick.

I remember coming here like a month ago saying that you guys would get Barkov.

Little did I know that DT was so high on him.
