That'd be my guess. I think one of Pickard and Aitto could be used as trade bait too.

Either way, that's the reason for the goalie pick. They usually take even longer than D-men to devlop, and who knows what the Avs goalie situation will be like in 3-4 years. I was actually hoping they'd take another goalie this year, it was about time to restock.

I don't care how good Weber is, Jones is not ready for top pairing NHL minutes. Even with the Avs **** poor defense I was only wanting him to play sheltered 3rd pairing minutes like 16-17 mins a night with some PP time if we had drafted him. It sounds like a heck of a good way to ruin a good prospects confidence. Lets put it this way Seth Jones hasn't seen players like Toews, Kane, Parise, Koivu, Duchene, PAP, Perron, Backes, Ladd, E Kane etc. and these are just the players he'd see in his division, they'd all eat him for breakfast at this point.

I would not be surprised if that experiment only lasted a few games and then they put Josi with Weber on the 1st pairing a move Jones to sheltered minutes.

Oh well not my call. And this thread is supposed to be about Avs draft picks so I won't rant about Jones anymore.
Jones is NHL ready and will be fine in the NHL. even on the top pair, especially with Shea as his pairing partner.
no point in easing him in, the Preds know how to develop D men. anyone questioning them on that needs their head checked.

Could be a blessing in disguise. We're a team with lots of offensive talent and little defensive talent. Nashville is about as polar opposite as a team could be. Seems like something could be done there...

O'Reilly for Josi at the deadline?

Sorry, not intending to drive this thread OT. Just pointing out that we really can't be too concerned with how other teams do. Who knows how this will all turn out?

I want Pickard to play a few games this season and I want Aitto to as well... Then trade whoever isn't the better of the two.

if they can be used as a nice trade asset to fix a hole i don't care if one is better. deal the one who will bring back the better player.

Anyone have any good clips of Bigras? I want to see this skating ability. I find it hard to believe hes a better skater than Mackinnon.

I bet you hundred HF dollars that Josi gets traded before Jones.

ROR for Josi is pretty fair, but currently I doubt Nashville would want to trade within the division.

Bump all of those down either a letter grade or .5 since we're the Avs

Definitely feel Mackinnon will be a 8.5 B

Otherwise I'm happy at the picks. Looks like they went out and told the fans '' We didnt get Jones, but were trying to address the D core on a longterm basis hoping one or two of these guys pan out.''

I was just sooo happy when I herd ''Halifax ...'' I yelled in the car scaring my gf Thank god for Bell T.v.

I will seriously send you a $20 bill in the mail if he is less than a 9.0 C

That has been the going rate for #1 overall picks for a very long time.

The fact that YAK and RNH are 9.0 C should make it a guarantee that Mac is. But then again HF writers dislike our teams.

MacKinnon would probably be a 9.5 for a lot of other teams imo

Easily considering he was touted as "the best prospect since Crosby"

Best vision s8nce Gretzky, most talented dman since pronger. Blah blah blah

Do people actually care what numbers they get or how much the experts and media hyoe up certain prospects? What difference does it make if mack is a 9c or a 8B? Kreider was an 8.5 iirc

Honestly none. I just want HF to respect the Avs more.

A site that downgrades Steven Stamkos to an 8.0 C after a slow rookie season loses every ounce of credibility me.

Kreider will be a first line player, and one of the better forwards in the league. I know he didn't light the world on fire this year, but I really believe this.

Jones is obviously a great player, but to have him as your #3 defenseman is a bit of a waste.
If Jones as #3 is a waste, how about MacKinnon as 3C??

BTW, Jones will start the year playing with Weber.

Button talks about his final rankings. Fair amount of Nate talk and other interesting stuff too. Few weeks old.

MacK will only be the #3C for a season, and it will be in a Kadri like role. Very sheltered offensive minutes.

Good draft again imo. I just love what I'm reading about Bigras and Geertsen. I know a lot of stuff will happen and there's a good chance prospects/young players won't pan out but it's fun to imagine a D consisting of EJ, Siemens, Barrie, Elliott, Bigras and Geertsen. Just a well rounded defense with a bit of everything in theory.

I think Will Butcher doesn't get much love here. What I've read guy is really talented and could be top 10 OHL draft pick in 2011 if he decide to go Major Junior way. His rankings this year rose up almost 70 places between Midterm to Final rankings. He could be great puck-moving d-man, he shoots left, so fits our needs. He will play Denver University, so AVS can have good eye on him.

The more I read about some of our other picks (mainly Bigras) the more excited I am. Then I realize this happens every year and on every team's forum.
