Maybe. Luongo is a proud guy, though.

This whole situation is like your wife leaving you for a younger, hotter guy. Then, after he dumps her, she calls you up and says, "Hey, I've decided to take you back, let's just pretend none of this ever happened."

I feel like this is going to get ugly. Hopefully I'm wrong.

If he's even sitting on the fence about it, it's the easiest thing in the world to say 'I'm surprised, but I love my teammates and the city and am happy to have another chance to win a Cup there'. The fact he responded like this speaks volumes.

Awesome.
No no no MS you negative nilly.

Lu's just beside himself now that groom has run back into his arms after previously leaving him at the alter.

Its a "dont wanna talk about it" out of happiness thing.

Maybe he doesn't want to play in NJ? I'm not saying he would, but what would happen if he didn't report there? Would the trade be undone?

We've kept the more expensive option, the one MG decided a year ago was the inferior goaltender, the one who despite peoples' claims otherwise is no longer an elite level goalie, and according to Duthie just now, still doesn't want to be here.

But the positive is we might climb a couple slots in the next HF prospect rankings!!
This is not true. Horvat's game is one of the more NHL ready of the forwards in the draft. Doubt he'll make the team this year, but the 14-15 season wouldn't surprise me at all.

My feelings on the trade are exceptionally mixed. There's no doubt Gillis botched the goalie situation badly, and I'm really upset to be losing Schneider. I also don't think the return was good enough, but I am really happy to get Horvat, especially the more I read about him.

Luongo is pretty damn media savvy. He knows the right thing to say and what the organization would want him to say.

The fact that he said nothing like this, but instead that he needs to 'talk to his agent and explore his options' says all you need to know.

He'll probably end up playing here because he won't have much choice. But what kind of situation is it to be stuck with this guy for the next 7 years when he doesn't want to be here? And what does it do to the vibe and morale around the rest of the team?
This actually makes me happy. Come on, if you're going to have a gong show, might as well have the gongiest show that ever gonged. I hope he refuses to report.

Brutal return. Absolutely brutal. I can't seriously believe that's the best we could've got. MG caved, now we're stuck with Luongo after everything he's been through here.

Great.

Shoot me now.

Now you see why they play lethargic. To answer your question from the other day.

I think it's a little early to take too much away from Luongo's "statements" through Duthie...he probably needs to know what the **** is going on...he hasn't heard from anyone in the organization yet so he's in the dark here and probably doesn't want to say anything he might regret later.

Because of his loyalty to Vancouver.

A lot of ridiculous overreaction today. Despite being in a position of weakness, everyone knew MG needed to move a goaltender, he still managed to get #9 for Schneider. You have to give up value to get value, and the goalie market in general has been poor for a while now.

Chicago won cups with an unproven Niemi and a below average Crawford. I think we'll do just fine with Luongo, who has become criminally underrated around here.

Those picks made me feel better. But Schneids getting traded for such little return sucks.

I can assure you (without even talking to CS) that hes is more than happy to be going to a club:

1) he'll be the number one.
2) is run like a professional organization.
3) close to his home town

Nope.
That's just hopeful thinking.

Only way the trade gets undone is if Schneider fails his physical...
And that is probably not going to happen.
Plus...
On the off chance that it does...
New Jersey might still do it...
Provided if it is not a career threatening injury.

Except it's not, because that's a personal relationship, and Luongo's relationship with the Canucks is professional. Once he gets over the shock of his buddy Schneider getting traded, he will be fine. Give him some time to digest the news.

Again, he's not stupid, and knows what he's expected to say. Knows what would diffuse the situation.

Didn't say it.

He's got a lucrative contract as a number one on a still very good team.
If he's upset, it's likely due to 18 months of being painted as the anchor holding back the Good Ship Canuck.

Varlamov got the 11th overall and 2 round pick.

Cory had a better resume.

Gillis must go

I agree with you Hammer...
But at this point...
Most people would probably be happy if there was a 2nd rounder included in the trade.
The lack of return is pretty criminal.

lol.

What 'options'?

The options are...'play for Vancouver and suck it up'. or 'be unhappy'.

The fact that he's 'reviewing' these options isn't a good sign.

The issue isnt whether Lu can win its whether he truly wants to be here.
