Remember, we also needed a team that wanted to move up to #11 as well. There was no other movement until San Jose moved up from 20 to 18. And I bet if we dropped to #20, EVERYONE would have been complaining that we dropped 8 spots JUST to add another pick. Getting Morin and Hagg makes the first 2 rounds a win for me. Then it went to crap after that.

It's not unthinkable, but it would have been risky. I'm happy with the way things panned out because I think the hagg pick is really safe. Morin has greater upside. He could be a beast.

He was a highly touted kid going into the OHL from New Jersey. He played alongside Ryan Ellis his first year and put up big numbers. Ellis left after that year and Ebert didn't step up and be the guy most thought he would be. I think he also has character issues.

If I remember the talks from last year's draft correctly, it was mainly character issues and many worded the drop to the very last spot as a "lesson"

only 2 canadian junior players drafted, 4 from outside. Interesting.

I actually do prefer the europe/HS/USHL approach for the second half of the draft. CJHL players are so heavily scouted that I think you have less chance of finding a steal in the second half of the draft than you do for players that aren't as heavily scouted.

Plenty of teams still chatting trade right now, I'm told. As many have reported, VAN still discussing Edler. EDM has offer on Philly's table

He's now at 8 defensemen total in the last two cycles. I don't want to hear this bs that they don't give a **** about drafting defensemen anymore.

Holmgren said he had offers for #11 pick & move down but "Once we knew [Morin] was going to be there, we had no intention of moving back.”

What's the numbers at between the 1st and 3rd rounds? I don't really have realistic expectations for players drafted after the 3rd, so us taking a bunch of D men there isn't that special

Really excited about Hagg. Going by my list, here's how I would have picked them:

11 - Max Domi
41 - Robert Hagg
72 - Jackson Houck
132 - Greg Chase
162 - Viktor Arvidsson
192 - Kyle Burroughs

Can't wait to look back at this 10 years from now.
