Why would that be sad?

If you can get a guy like those without giving up couturier, why not?

Love the first two picks of this draft. The rest of them are all pretty much typical late round selections: if they make the NHL, great; if not, better luck in next year's later rounds.

I find Pitt's draft hilariously bad. Jarry is a solid pick with their 2nd, but they had other better players on the board there

I think VAN and BUF won the draft.

Highlights from what Vancounver got:

Hovart and Shinkaruk in the first
Cole Cassels in the third
Jordan Subban in the fourth

Highlights from what Buffalo got:

Ristolainen and Zadorov in the first
JT Compher and Justin Bailey in the second

I said I could see couts or Laughton flipped. Couts would probably need to be moved if you hope for a guy like Myers or kulikov, Laughton if you're after a guy like Gormley or Rundblad.

I will say, nobody knows who won the draft right now. Most if not all these kids should be back to their respective junior teams, euro leagues, colleges, etc. Even if they have been touted, highly regarded, have the pedigree, they still have to make it count where it matters the most. So pretty much it is impossible for anyone to say a certain team won the draft.

The Flyers won the draft.

Eh, I think that you can look at a crop of recruits and say who won the draft based on their colelctive potential. Obviously, no one knows for 4-5 years, but you can look at a team like Buffalo who got some big names in the first two rounds and say they were one of the best, then look at Pitt who didn't have a any real high ceiling picks outside of Jarry and say they were not one of the best. It's all wild speculation, but if this draft is anything like 2003 like it was billed, then pretty much everyone did a good job.

Eklund saying right now we might be the favorites for Vinny L.

He would probably be used at wing with Giroux you would think right?

Either that, or Schenn moves to the wing while vinny is the second line center. And then Couts and Laughton are on the 3rd and 4th.

Also could mean we might trade Couts. Who knows? I am actually happy that Homer has been patient so far, i hope he keeps it up.

Edit: if we do sign him I hope it is no more than two years.

Analysts seem to think he's getting 4 years @ 4m-5m

Any guesses on what HF ranks them?

I'd give Morin an 8.5C or D
Hagg 7.5B

I would give VL that. He's only 33 I think. He's not a Hart Trophy guy anymore, but I think on G's wing he could be a PPG player for the majority of the contract. Pretty solid lineup there, assuming VL is the only addition (which I doubt will be the case). This is assuming Mez and Coburn are both here to start the year...

That'd be :
Second-Line Forward/ No. 3-4 Defenseman / Journeyman No. 1 Goaltender with the chance to drop to Fourth line forward / No. 7 defenseman / depth goaltender for morin and similar for Hagg

analysts seem to think he has first pairing potential if his offense develops though, so I'd think that'd be 8.0

I'll go with this. Maybe 7.5 B for Morin, but you're probably right with the C. They are stingy with the As and Bs.

Please tell me why we would want Lecavalier so bad. I'm seriously confused by the interest from both the Flyers and the fans here. His contract demands seem like quite a commitment in both length and cap hit for a 33 year old guy that plays a position we are deep at.

I'd love to get Lecavalier, but wouldn't that kill all of our future hope of resigning most of our players? Giroux is gonna get a big raise, and then we're left with a bunch of big contracts again. No room for any depth, which, other than Pittsburgh, seems to be the recipe for being a Cup contender.

If they sign Vinny I think they need to go ahead and move Schenn to the left wing spot long term. He needs to be at one spot so he can get some consistency in his game.

I was thinking this as well. I just don't see the need. And given the Flyers cap needs next offseason, I don't get why we want to bring on a 2C as a luxury. Schenn both project to be good #2 centers, but neither are going to turn into that if we shifting them out of position to the wings.

I don't think so. If Vinny is the only big addition, that leaves about $5 million in cap space THIS year. Kimmo comes off the books next year. Mez comes off the books next year. And the cap goes up next year. The Flyers would have about $20 million to sign abotu 10 players (without factoring in the cap going up). You figure $7-8 million will go to Giroux. Schenn and Couturier's raises won't be that big. You figure McGinn and maybe Cousins could step up and playon cheap contracts. Maybe Coburn is moved and is replaced by a lesser cap hit. It wouldn't be perfect, but I think it could work. Factor in even a modest bump in the cap (like $2-$3 million) and that makes it even easier. Some have speculated the cap could really shoot up higher than that too.

Read would be difficult to re-sign, but if I had to choose between Read at $4 million and VL at $4.5 million, I would take VL every day of the week, even at the ripe old age of 33.

The Flyers needed veterans last year. The young guys got into a tail spin in the beginning of the year and never recovered. Adding Lecavalier adds veteran leadership, and IMO much better than floating no defense Briere. Plus he is still a very productive center. The only reason he got bought out was that his contract was absurd. I would love for the Flyers to add him and another veteran winger to the top 9.
