Watching the second vid in the OP, this kid is pretty damn good! Obviously at his size he's hard to take off the puck, but I was more impressed with his vision and hockey IQ. He knows what to do with the puck. He always put it in to the right areas and also had the flair at his size to put it through the Canadian's legs, drive the net and release it quickly by the goaltender. He was constantly buzzing and played a great forechecking game. He threaded a couple sweet passes on the power play too.

If we can work on his skating, this guy can be a diamond. And this was against Team Canada, not too shabby among his peers.

Watch his vision in that video, it's pretty great.

Well done Trevor

NEWARK, N.J.—Leafs GM Dave Nonis said he was prepared to move up in the first round or move out of it for the right price. But he thought Frederik Gauthier and another player, believed to be Anthony Mantha, would be around at No. 21 and decided to stay put. Mantha went 20th to Detroit. If body language means anything, Montreal Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin was visibly upset, scratching Gauthier’s name off his list after the Leafs took him. Montreal picked American forward Michael McCarron four spots later.
Toronto Star

Thought I'd share.

Perfect sense. Some guys think we need 12 Galys skating around out there and we will win. Well, that isn't true; balance is needed. The grinders and dirty work players allow for the stars to do their thing. They compliment each other. It should be painfully obvious to all Hab fans, we lacked that balance.

Now I definitely know that TT knows this because of your inciteful post. I can now sleep better at nights.

Im getting a Tinordi vibe... Huge from US dev. program and thought to have limited upside, going to London maybe. I didnt like Tinordi at first, maybe i'll start to like McCarron... I hope so...

Exactly, the first page of this thread is frustrating to read, some posters are real idiots here, what if he was BPA ?

Anyway, if we don't gamble on players like that, we won't ever have a PF... and in London, he's in the best place to learn that

Not a lot of other families do that without knowing them. They were definitely clapping and it looked like Karl mouthed something to him. They were letting him have his moment with his family which is right. PK has many chances to congratulate him.

That's my thinking as you know. Here is one mock draft -

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1...ound-2/page/32

37,38 our guys (27 was the goalie).

for the first hour he was a hab, i thought he was a defenseman and i was borderline upset..

when roommate told me he was a winger i QUICKLY changed my mind, ..no matter what, we absolutely needed to get a bit bigger on the wing, ..is he a 3rd liner? probably, but you NEED players like this, and people keep forgetting he can be placed on a powerplay and INSTANTLY becomes an element weve NEVER had, big body presence in front of the net, and no laraque doesnt count

watching him give his interview with duthie, im going why the HELL is he wearing shoulder pads? thats so weird...

oh wait.... .. he aint.

I'm a fan too. What sold him to me was the combination skating ability, his size, his grit and physicality, and that he's always on the puck.

Poirier was predicted to go at 49 in that mock draft and he went at 22.

Lots of people make predictions and ranking reports and they are worthless.

But it does make for interesting discussions.

Whether we took him in the 1st or 2nd round to me doesn't matter. We stole Fucale in the 2nd round when he was a top 20 pick and the #1 goalie in the draft. It doesn't matter what order you draft them in, we got great value.

I was happy when we drafted him and i'm even more happy now. He's gonna be a huge part of our team moving forward. Just hope he's gonna go play in London!!

I've got a question guys: Is McCarron a better player than Tyler Biggs? What are the différences?

Thanks

Welcome McCarron!!

What I love about him is he doesn't just go to the net. He is always trying to block the goalies view...basically forcing a goalie to look between his legs or around them.

A lot of players go around the net but don't actually screen the goalie...this guy screens the goalie and then some.

He could easily be a big third liner who plays #1 PP and maybe is a glue guy on the 2nd line as a puck protector and net presence.

Really? You've got be be ****ing kidding? The last few drafts he's been able to draft:

Galchenyuk
Patches
McDonagh
Tinordi
Kristo

All are or will be very good NHL players. The one notable bad pick being Fischer. TT has had very good results with US born players.

McCarron has more skills, bigger, better hockey sense, he's more polished. He might be a little less aggressive, Biggs is more of a project, he had a good first OHL season.
